1. Generic questions
Is FallUI compatible with [insert mod here]?
Most mods are compatible - Just try it out.
You can also check the compatibility section on the mod page for known issues.
I already have tags and icons and all. But I want to use FallUI, is that possible?
Just install only the main FallUI after all other mods.
Then FallUI uses your existing icons and tag configuration.
Do I need the the FallUI Item Sorter Mod package?
You can use any Item Sorter Mod you like.
The prepared package is meant to be the easy option to be happy without worry and get a perfectly working styled nice looking setup out-of-the-box!
Where can i find FIS - The New FallUI Item Sorter Mod?
OLD FallUI Item Sorter Mod - I like to have weightless items, use UFO4P, have no DLC's or have other mods, how can I get it completely tagged?
You find many pre-built packages on the FallUI Item Sorter Mod files page. There are packages for weightless, with and without DLC's, with UFO4P and so on.
If you have custom mods, which you like to have tagged completely, and aren't afraid of F04Edit, check out Complex Sorter - It will tag all your installed mods in just one single ESP. It's totally customizable too.
Can i use FallUI without Item Sorting?
Yes.
2. Visual and appeareance
Pipboy texts are too dark to read, why?
Solutions:
1) Turn off PipboyFX (via mod or ini setting)
or 2) Turn off the Pipboy interface coloring in FallUI settings.
If you are using ENB, you should check the ENB settings as well. Some settings have a significant influence on the Pipboy contrast.
My Pipboy is blurry - I want to have it crisp, sharp and colored (like in the screenshots), how?
1) Turn off PipboyFX (Use the provided Mod in FallUI FOMOD installer)
2) Increase your Pipboy resolution (See installation instructions)
My Pipboy looks blurry and/or too bright in power armor...
The power armor adds some effects to the Pipboy rendering, which can made it look to bright or blurry
The Power Armor map fix fixes the brightness and color bleeding.
Also this Ini settings for Fallout4.ini or Fallout4custom.ini reduce the effects even more:
[Display]
fPipboyScreenDiffuseIntensity=0
fPipboyScreenDiffuseIntensityPA=0
fPipboyScreenEmitIntensity=1
fPipboyScreenEmitIntensityPA=1
fPipboyScreenGlassDepth=0
fPipboyScreenGlassDepth_PowerArmor=0
fPipboyScreenRefractionStrength=0
fPipboyScreenRefractionStrength_PowerArmor=0
How do I change colors?
You can change the colors in the MCM Configuration Menu.
Check the options in FallUI > Interface > Coloring.
You can configure all colors for the different interfaces there.
If you don't want white as additional color disable "Dual colors".
Can I change the 3D item position in Pipboy inventory?
Yes, change/add the following ini settings to your Fallout4.ini. The values in the example will align it nicely with FallUI so it will overlap less with the text:
[Interface]
fPipboy3DItemScreenPosX=0.8200
fPipboy3DItemScreenPosY=0.3000
fPipboy3DItemScreenScale=0.45000
What are the RGB values of the pre-defined colors?
Std White: 255, 255, 255
Green: 11, 143, 17
Green light: 96, 184, 100
Blue: 0, 95, 235
Blue light: 122, 204, 255
Red: 128, 0, 0
Red light: 224, 162, 162
Technical blue: 50, 155, 205
Yellow: 185, 205, 0
Orange: 185, 130, 0
Purple: 106, 0, 165
Pink: 225, 0, 225
All terminals are white now...
The disabled PipboyFX also affects the terminals. You can use the Lite version of Terminal Color Separator to restore the coloration for terminals while also having a colorful Pipboy.
3. Pipboy inventory and items
Item is not renamed and/or it keeps old tag names
But this can be fixed with this tricks:
- Just drop the weapon/apparel and retake it. This should fix most naming problems. If not, try 2.
- Change it at a workbench. (Just change any part that change the name and change it back)
- If 1. and 2. don't work the item is unique and/or renamed. In this case, you must add the tag manually via workbench rename. Look in your item sorters "FIS (FallUI Item Sorter).xml" (new sorting) or "DEF_INV_TAGS.xml" (old sorting) for the matching keyword, than remove the old (if exists) and just type the tag before the item name, e.g. : "Pistol" to "[Pistol] Pistol" or maybe "[Ranged] Pistol".
TIP: Use FallUI Workbench to for easy tag assignment with one click. It shows a menu with all available icons direct in the game. (Can add and change existing icon tags)
TIP 2: De-favorite your item before. The favorite flag prevents item renaming.
Weapons and apparel have no icons?
But it can be fixed: See the first question "Item is not renamed and/or it keeps old tag names" that handle this topic.
Some items have icons, but some have no icons, why?
The tags for items will be added by "Item Sorter Mods".
These mods are pre-built esps, which have some drawbacks:
- The pre-built mods include only a specific amount of items. Mostly they cover all vanilla items, but no mod items.
- Only one mod in your mod-list can modify a specific item. The last one wins. So for example: If you have two mods modifying a Stimpak. One which adds a [Stimpak] tag. And one which double's the effect. Only one mod can be the winning last one. And so only one property will be in your game. Either you have the tag or you have double effect. But not both at the same time.
To lower the effects of these drawbacks make sure you have the most matching Item Sorter from FallUI Item Sorter Mod (like using the UFO4P version or AWKCR version if you use those mods).
For new items from custom mods (like new armor) you most probably need a special patch file which will tag that item. Maybe you can find such a file on Nexusmods. Or you add the tag yourself via workbench rename. Or use Complex Sorter to automate the tagging (see below).
The most universal approach is to use Complex Sorter to tag your items. It will automatically tag all items for all your installed mods. And it will automatically use the current item properties. (Remember the Stimpak from above? Complex Sorter will add the [Stimpak] tag to the double effect record, so you get both at the same time!)

I have no icons, tags or categories, whats wrong?
Simplest solution: Install FIS - The NEW FallUI Item Sorter.
I have tags and categories, but no icons, why?
This one is the recommended for FIS - The NEW FallUI Item Sorter:
FallUI - Icon Library
Why I'am seeing texts with "$M8r_..."?
Your installation isn't correct. Check the Translation files (e.g. "Interface\Translate_en.txt) is installed correctly and aren't overwritten by another mod.
Can I change the Pipboy subcategories like name or which item groups to what?
Yes.
You can edit the subcategories via the XML file "data\Interface\lyrConf.xml".
For example you can rename a subcategory by changing the <text> entry, e.g. change "<text>«${M8r_Holotapes}»</text>" to "<text>My tapes!</text>".
You can also use some of the pre-defined (but disabled) subcategories like the range and melee weapon grouping by removing the "<!--" before and "-->" after those sections.
For more "complex" editing like changing a items subcategory place or create a new one see to the documentation at the top in the file.
Tip: Copy that file to your own mod, so your changes won't be overwritten by an mod update (Note: You have to merge the both files after an update).
You can also see Howto: Add Your Own Item Tag With Icon for a Howto and example for adding own tags.
4. Errors
Another mod stopped working or lost some of its functionality after installing FallUI Item Sorter?
Typical phenomena:
- A vanilla item have no tag and so no icon
- Some extensions in the workbench can't be used anymore
- An item have lost its special ability given by some mod
This is a problem of incompatible record overwrite in the involved ESP files.
In Bethesda game, only one mod can change a specific item (The "winning last" problem). So if two mods want to change one item, there is always be a conflict.
There are multiple partial and full solutions to this:
- Install the newer FIS - The NEW FallUI Item Sorter
- Install a (better) matching Item Sorter package from FallUI Item Sorter Mod
- Install a specific patch for your problem (if there exist one)
- Change the plugin load order to give one ESP priority over another
- Move FallUI Item Sorter ESP to load after some other mod, to ensure you got the tag/icon. (You will loose the changes from the other mod)
- Move FallUI Item Sorter ESP to load before some other mod, to ensure you got changes from the other mod. (You will loose the tag/icon)
- Merge the records in the ESPs by yourself using FO4Edit. This way you can get tag/icon and the change from the other mod.
- Use Complex Sorter to create a individual tagging ESP for your whole mod list. (Automatically adds tags to all item and keep their changes). You can find a details How-To change from FallUI Item Sorter pre-built packages to Complex Sorter custom builds here: How-To Upgrade FallUI Item Sorter Pre-Built To Custom-Built
See also this FAQ entry: "Some items have icons, but some have no icons, why?"
I have an error message saying "IconLibs not found" or "iconlibs2.swf missing", why?
Your installation is missing an IconLibrary mod. (This is just the file "Interface\iconlibs2.swf")
Solution: For FallUI Item Sorter, install DEF_UI Iconlibs Rescaled and Fixed (Just "Colored" or "Uncolored". Ignore dependencies and instructions there)
If you are using another Item Sorter, see the Item Sorter mod page for howto install the Icon Library.
I have an error message saying "Error: Can't find the required file ./DEF_CONF/DEF_INV_TABS.xml...", why?
Your installation is missing an Item Sorter tag configuration. (These are 3 xml files in the folders Interface and Interface\DEF_CONF)
Solution: Install the matching tag configuration for your Item Sorter.
If you are using FallUI Item Sorter, you can install it with the option "FallUI Item Sorter - Tag Configuration" the main FallUI - Inventory installer. Also each FallUI Item Sorter package contains the tag configuration.
If you are using another Item Sorter, search the Item Sorter mod page for the three missing xml files (Probably included in the main file of the Item Sorter).
MCM Settings are not saved?
That is a rare, but known problem with the MCM menu when saving settings to INI files.
Mostly this problem encounter in combination with Mod Organizer 2 or xSE PluginPreloader.
You can find a list of possible solutions for that problem on the FallUI - Inventory page in the Compatibility section.
Gamepad+High resolution: The cursor in Pipboy map is locked to the upper left area...
So you should not use this.
If you want to use it anyway, there is a possible workaround:
1) Disable your gamepad.
2) Then open Pipboy via TAB
3) Activate gamepad
Then the mouse isn't locked to the map region. It isn't perfect, but at least you can reach anything again and have high resolution.
5. Other problems
Some or all parts not visible in game, why?
Possible reasons:
- You haven't installed it in the right place - Solution: Must installed to Fallout4's "data\" folder - or just use a Mod Manager - makes your life much easier!
- Another mod overwrite one or all files - Solution: Fix the conflict by putting FallUI after the conflicting mod.
HUD and quick loot: I see tags like "[Armor] Vault jumpsuit", why?
Simple solution: Install FallUI - HUD.
Workbench and crafting stations: I see tags like "[Armor] Vault jumpsuit", why?
Simple solution: Install FallUI - Workbench.
Confirm boxes: I see tags like "[Armor] Vault jumpsuit", why?
Simple solution: Install FallUI - Confirm Boxes.
Why I'am seeing names with "{{{ ... }}}"?
The "{{{...}}}" text at the end of an item name are components info, which are normally not visible in this unprocessed form.
If you see them, you probably have to install a mod capable of displaying it correctly. (Or maybe you haven't installed a mod correctly or it is overwritten by another mod.)
This could be appearing on different places, so which mod you need depends on the location where you see that entries.
You can find a list of all available FallUI mods in this article: The FallUI series installation guide.
