Use MO2?

Words From The Wise/Best Solution - Use Vortex to download and play Collections. Don't use MO2. They can both be installed and used without the slightest problem between them IF you leave the Default profile in Vortex clear of any mods.

  • Open Vortex. Enable Default profile. Be sure there are ZERO mods enabled in the Mods panel, and only the vanilla game files + any CC content are listed in the Plugins panel.
  • Create a new profile ("clone" in Vortex-speak) from that clean profile, one for each Collection you intend to install. Be sure that profile has its own save and ini files.
  • Enable that new profile. Download the Collection. The Collection will ask which profile you want to install into anyway.
  • Switching back to MO2 for your other modlists? Enable the DEFAULT profile in Vortex. Your vanilla game folder is now completely clear of mods, just as pretty as a picture.
  • Switching back to Vortex to play a Collection? Close MO2. Enable the Collection's profile in Vortex.
  • You should also keep a clean Default profile in MO2 btw.

What will it look like in MO2 if you don't ENABLE the Default Vortex profile when switching over to MO2? You will see the Collection's mod in both right and left panels of MO2, left-hand side showing UNMANAGED mods, and the right side panel with a lot of mods making a mess of your otherwise clean modlist characters.

Forgot to switch to the clean Default profile in Vortex before opening MO2?

  • Close MO2.
  • Open Vortex. Switch to the clean Default profile.
  • Close Vortex.
  • Open MO2. Should be back to normal now.

Still Insist on Using MO2?
Create a new profile in MO2 with ZERO mods enabled, just the vanilla game and DLC. Make sure it has its own save games and ini settings, of course. This should be a copy of your empty default profile. You do keep your default profile empty, yes? YES??

  • Go to the downloads tab for this Nexus HUB, download and open the Misc download ---> MO2 Text Files for the Collection you're going to use.
  • Copy the two text files from the .zip into that MO2 profile's PROFILE folder. Should overwrite.
  • Close MO2.
  • Open Vortex, download the Collection that matches the file you downloaded.
  • Once installed, click the PURGE button in the Mods panel of Vortex.
  • Close Vortex.
  • Open MO2. You should see a bunch of mods labeled UNMANAGED on the left. The right-side PLUGINS panel should have the Collection's mods already checked active. There may be a lot of unchecked mods because those mods are still technically in the vanilla game folders. Leave them alone. Ignore them. Unchecked = not active.
  • Run using F4SE like normal in MO2.

Remember to keep all Collections as separate profiles in MO2. Do not mix and match.

      This is the way. LOL

Thanx for the link. Want to use a Nexus collection - but I despise Vortex. Now I can DL with Vortex then migrate to MO2.
