About this image

Mostly, images of synths shooting or being shot or both but some deserve further comment:

Left hand side, middle: Maxine got a head injury and was seeing double the number of actual synths.

Spoiler Alert regarding Magnolia ( Bottom row, middle)

Spoiler:
Show
Is Magnolia a synth?  If she is killed somehow, a synth component is part of her loot.  Some people say that means she is a synth.  However, I choose to believe that she killed her synth replacement and looted that component from the dead synth.  (Like sometimes you see two NPCs named Art fighting it out.  One is a human and the other his synth replacement. That could have happened with Magnolia.)  On the other hand, Magnolia is very reticent to discuss her past.  So, the player is left to decide for themselves.  I vote for human.  Of course, wearing that dress, I'm not sure where she is keeping any loot.

Right edge, bottom:
Heather:  What's that thing attached to his head?
Maxine:  I don't know.  Some kind of communication device?  A control device?  You know, when he does something the Institute doesn't like, they zap him...
Heather:  Does that make him a synth?
Maxine:  I don't know that either.  How many synthetic parts do you need to be a synth?
Heather: Now, I don't know.  We don't know much, do we?  (Heather laughs).
Maxine:  Let's see if we can detach it.  There's usually a scalpel lying about somewhere ....

Thanks. They are from more than one encounter with synths.

Magnolia has a mysterious past. She could be either, but I want her to be human for this play through anyway. Maybe I can come up with another scenario later.

Thanks. I have been trying to be more conscious of "point of impact" shots.

That's what I like about this type of game. You're free to make your own interpretations and to write your own story to explain events.

      Thanks very much.
It seems like there's a scalpel in every other storage container that you can loot ... Kellogg has three cybernetic "parts" that you just "find" on his person. Just like when you kill a synth, you "find" a "synth component". Although, I am glad we're not required to carry around a surgical kit if we want to loot these parts.

At me Furiosa defines synths on a method from an anecdote.
    Two friends are talking:
    - Can you imagine, my neighbor turned out to be a vampire!
    - How did you know about that?
    - I stuck a wooden stake into his chest, and he died of it at once.

Good anecdote. Like the old witch trials. Chain her up and throw her in the pond. If she floats, she's a witch and we'll have to burn her. If she drowns, she wasn't a witch.
Sometimes, within the game, we can tell that someone is a synth before they're dead. There are the two Arts - one of them is a synth. Rarely, I've seen "Preston Garvey" wandering around far from where I know I've left him. In all other cases I've come across, I've had to use the anecdotal method.

One of my favorite movies! Of course, that was in a different millennium. By the 1700's the logic was much further advanced.... or, was it?

But for the purposes of the narrative, you can use any logic depending on the goals. For example, Furiosa uses logic such as "Sudden blow to the brain."
