   I guess that cult spouts the mantra that justifies all strangeness in that weird Wasteland. They belive that every time an atom splits; new spin-off worlds are created. Alternate dimensions.
   Suppose that's why Fallout seems to share history with the real world right up until the first Atomic Bomb is dropped. Then we were Divided.
   Maybe they, in regards to the main church of Atom, made like their Lord and Saviour and Split.
   They may have had some kind of Falling Out (pun intended) with the Capital Wasteland and drifted north or perhaps, in this instance of the divided Fallout dimensions; they are the original Church of Atom after all...
   Who can really say with those nut jobs

      I think they are just a bunch of lunatics that stumbled upon an overwhealming force of nature. Like any pre-histioric savages these "post-historics" worship what they can't harness, thoungh they have a general understanding of the nuclear fusion.
      That's where the contradiction lays.
      
      The whole Church of Atom thing is a bit sketchy to me.
