   Been using IrfanView for years. It's a free download and will do just about anything you need;

   I use Paint.Net to turn them into .jpg
   It's free and you can even adjust how much memory (quality) you want to save it with.

   Save as .jpg's, preferably at the lowest compression so the quality degradation isn't too bad, still makes it a fraction of the size. Keep .png backups if you want since those are lossless.
