Out of curiosity, would the method used in this mod: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/9555/? be any good for making the blade translucent? Since you wouldn't have anything inside the see-through part, you wouldn't have the problem they are (that the game won't just render that bit of armor as translucent, and the body it shows underneath is built into the mesh), but I am only getting started on mesh editing for Fallout 4, so I don't know if there would be any other problems.
If it would work, it would certainly make it more in line with the source material, and the effect would probably be awesome.
