About this image

I don't know , I think the textures are off.
Too much dirt maybe.
So much differences between IRay and gamebryo engine.

What looks strange to me is the hyper sharpness of the depth details on the foregrip. It looks like the wood has no subsurface scattering, or something, causing the ridges to throw really sharp shadows. Of course, that could be the aliasing that makes it stand out more than otherwise.

That said, I do think the dirt could stand to go bye-bye. Doomslayer seems the type to take care of his tools.

I agree. Wear and tear are natural, neglect is inexcusable. As you said, he seems the type to take care of his tools.

Well there is no SSS for objects in Fallout. Only bodies profit from the fake SSS of the game engine.
The problem is the game engine,Gamebryo Engine. And too much dirt
If you look here you'll find an IRay render from Subtance Painter. It looked quite good to me and I thought I could go with this amount of damage and dirt.I was wrong.I never have done a such dirty model before, so I made a mistake.
Iray= PBR and HDRI lighting, Fallout =fake PBR and fake lighting.
I just have to lower the amount of dirt and darkened it a bit.
Normally the barrel and the receiver of the gun should look like Briareos arm but with dirt.

Also if you have the chance to watch the Doom3, 2016, eternal game models, you'll notice that none of the weapons are clean , pristine.^_-

That's fair. I guess. Doomguy would take care of his tools if he had the time. He's too busy killing demons :D

What sucks is that Fallout 4 could have used full PBR systems, but they seemed to stop halfway through development and abandon that idea. Some of the vanilla assets look much better than others.
