Gun For Hire - Releasing June 4th 2021!

Gun For Hire, followup to Feb 2020s #1 Mod of the Month, Crime and Punishment is releasing in four days!

For those that have not been following along with the development cycle of this mod over the last eight months, let me break it down for you.

Gun For Hire, at its core, is a role-playing mod that allows you to be a mercenary, out to earn caps. You open an office just across the square from the gates into Diamond City and you hire an assistant, who will find work for you. This office space is considered an interior player home location, so you can decorate it, but not assign anyone to it (or dismiss companions there). During the course of the mod's content, you will have access to an addition entry into the office, which unlocks as a result of one of your jobs. More on that later.

Gun For Hire features 27 main job archetypes that your assistant can offer to you. Within these 27 main jobs are roughly 125 various branches and outcomes. Some are randomly generated at runtime, others occur based on your choices and actions. To clear up a misconception I have heard around town, so to speak, GFH is not a procedural job generation mod. Each of the jobs is unique and specific to a theme, but as said, has random branches and outcomes contained within them.

These jobs are INFINITELY REPLAYABLE! That's right, the content of this mod NEVER ENDS. Though the name of the jobs will repeat, the location of the job, the target of the job and the possible setups and outcomes will offer nearly infinite variations.

But thats not all it does! I have also coded a custom interfacing script for the REScript which allows me to craft specific jobs as random encounters, where they function as active quests, rather than small interactions or scenes that you witness. If you opt to communicate with the individual, a job can start. If you just keep on walking, using REScript's functions within the triggers, they will shut down and reset the trigger and the scripting so that it can fire again at a later time.

And, GFH has a mailbox outside of your office where you can be offered other jobs not covered by the assistant. That means, between the mailbox and the random encounters, that Gun For Hire's job pool is infinitely scalable and can be added to when and as I choose!

Not only do you get an INFINITE role playing opportunity as a mercenary, but you will also be able to procure a player owned vertibird at some point in the mod! This will unlock a landing pad just beside the junkyard beside the DC gates; you know the one, full of feral dogs. This vertibird had specific controls in it's control menu in the mod's holotape, such as flying to you for a pickup, taking you (or itself) back to the office landing pad. It can even take you to job locations on the map that you have not discovered before (but not all jobs offer this capability)! It even allows you to pick your preferred seating arrangement where the player can sit in the pilot seat instead of the door gun position! Note: You do not actually fly the vbird like that one mod allows.

On top of all of that, once you have a team hired (more on that in a second), you can also call in the vertibird to provide air support while you are boots on the ground!

About the team system! I have custom coded a multi-follower system from scratch that does NOT use the FollowersScript (and therefore does not alter it like other mods do). It allows you to hire three NPCs to function as your team, who can be hired at the conclusion of one of the jobs you will be offered. See? Replayability. It allows you to do the same kind of job three times and procure a fire team to travel with you!

These team members have been coded to mirror companions of Heather Casdin quality and functionality. Imagine that. THREE HEATHERS. Full access to their AI settings. Upgrades and perks, training and specialization. They will even come and heal the player if you are downed in combat, if you enable this functionality in the holotape.

Since they do not use the base game system for followers, they do not dismiss like normal followers. When you dismiss them, they return uniquely to the Gun For Hire office and only that location.

Yes, you CAN take them with you to Nuka World or Far Harbor (though, the DLCs themselves are NOT required to run this mod).

ALL OF THIS you get in four days... PLUS this mod is fully voiced! Over 5200 lines of dialogue from a cast of voice actors who donated their time and talents (Thanks one and all!).

Vocal Talent:

Kerstyn Unger a.k.a Kikiapplus as the voice of Joan and Gunner Mechanic.

It does indeed. The mod itself doesnt care where you are in the game, be it freshly exiting the vault, or 1000 hours PAST blowing up the Institute. All it cares about is you finding the office door, opening it to claim your space and hiring an assistant.

      It is indeed!

After eight long months of development, testing and all of the rest of the fun that goes into making DLC sized mods, it is finally happening!

I hope it lives up to your expectations, after waiting so long.
