I'm doing my best to hide the effect, I'll probably find some tricks down the line.
Most meshes are just LOD level, so if you try to subdivide with a smooth set you can have a good highres mesh, i use catmull for general subdivision, but before that i use a basic no smooth subdivision in some parts, i take this high mesh to bake the normal, after that i add the original normal as a layer so i could edit it, just make a mask to fade stuff etc... after that i use this frankenstein normal as a base to bake everything for the texturing.

I'm experimenting with simply blurring the normal map. Not very clean but it seems to do the trick.
The syringer is not as bad honestly.
I'm doing the revolver for sure.
