I have never had my game freeze when they are firing, but my game might lag a little bit. They usually don't all fire at the same time depending on where the enemies are.
No, I didn't use 'placeatme' to align them. I just stood right next to the side a turret, grabbed it, and manually/carefully lined the front leg with the edge of the small wooden floor in the center. One turret per one small wooden floor. When the floors change direction, in the corner, I lined the front leg with the outer most corner of the small wooden floor, so instead of being straight the turret is at an angle.
The floors where the wire conduit are running over, are 4 small wooden floors in a 2x2 square which equal 1 big wooden floor.
This design/layout with also work with all of the other types of turrets.
Thanks. Yes, aiming all of the turrets were done manually. I would just place down a few turrets and then move each one into place. It did take awhile, but it wasn't too bad once I got used to doing it. But, now that I have Transfer Settlements installed, when I start a new save game, I just import the blueprint and everything gets placed in the correct spot.
I have only used 'placeatme' to spawn NPCs for testing purposes.

2. Do you use "placeatme" to align the towers that precisely or is there another trick?

However, this requires a lot of patience and time.
I use the important console commands "placeatme" (if I know the Base ID) + "getangle x,y,z" + "setangle x,y,z" + "modpos x,y,z" + "modangle x,y,z".
Knowing this, I once built a pool around "Mass Fusion's Executive Suite" for testing purposes, and swam in it without falling into the depths.

Oh, cool, about the pool.
