   I tried to replace vanila welding helmet withalge2011 https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/17283mesh without any changes just rename and place as it is in vanila but in game it appears flat and streched .
   Maybe you know what is the reason
   alge2011 mod works perfect as it is on screens everything is normal

   Is it a separate item for both closed and open, or is it one item that changes state like the Assaultron Helmet?

      Unfortunately separate lol. I just make the stats exactly the same with fo4 edit and repalce the texture.
