UPDATE: I added a version 2 that is a somewhat streamlined version. It adds in a new Misc item called a "Damaged Manual", which is now used to build the SPECIAL books. Damaged Manuals can be made using burnt books, burnt textbooks, and burnt comics. It is a 1-1 conversion for the books and textbooks, and a 10-1 conversion for the comics.
SPECIAL books are pretty awesome. They allow you to boost ANY SPECIAL stat by 1. As long as that stat is below 10. Saves you a level up perk point. But unfortunately you only ever get 1 in the game, and that's at the very start. Many of us made the derp mistake of using it right away on. But that's ok, we can always... get... more... or not. Ah wells.
And even if we save it on later playthroughs, we find out that once a SPECIAL stat hits 10, we can't use the book on it anymore! So we have to use drugs and other things to drop our SPECIAL stats to use it on something to push it past 10. Quite a nuisance.
NOT ANYMORE!
I present to you, CRAFTABLE SPECIAL BOOKS!!! These SPECIAL books act exactly like the one you pick up at the very beginning of the game (mostly because they are). You can build them in the chem station, and they even have their own tab! But... it gets better. Not only can you make them now, but you no longer have to worry about the desired SPECIAL stat being over 10, since you can now apply them to ANY SPECIAL stat, regardless of what it's current level is!
The only thing is though... the crafting requirements for these books due to their rather OP nature... are steep. And they require items that are utterly useless in the base game. Yes, I am talking about those horrible items known as Burnt Books and Burnt Textbooks. Each one weighs 1 carry weight, and is worth... 0... yes... 0 caps. So they are utterly and completely pointless. So I gave them a purpose. Now you have a reason to collect them! (See above update for new crafting material requirements) Collect enough, go to your chem station, get a small amount of leather and plastic (after all you're making a kids book), build yourself a SPECIAL book, and make those disgusting dead weights worth something again!
TO USE SPECIAL BOOKS You'd figure this part would be pretty straightforward, but just to avoid confusion later on, to use the books, you must first drop them out of your inventory, and then pick them up again. Pick your SPECIAL stat, and that's that. Best part is, the books are one time use ONLY, so they aren't cheat. Much. Also they're now worth caps, so you can sell them off to a vendor once you're done. Best part is, unlike their predecessors (burnt books/textbooks), they're completely weightless!
Since this mod was made entirely from scratch, there shouldn't be any conflicts with anything. Also no requirements other than the base game XD.
Made entirely with FO4Edit while listening to random movie soundtracks.
