Vault 81 "Hole in the Wall"
If "Hole in the Wall" is completed and Austin is given the Vault 81 cure, a legendary vault suit awaits the Sole Survivor in his or her bedroom in Vault 81.
If "Hole in the Wall" is completed and Austin is left to die, you receive the "Childkiller" perk. If you take the Vault 81 cure for yourself, you receive the "Costly Cure" perk.
Either way, the new legendary effect "Vault Dweller" is added to randomly spawned Legendary items in the game.
★ Features
- Adds a new Legendary effect called "Vault Dweller" which appears on randomly spawned Legendary armor items:
- If Austin is cured during the quest "Hole in the Wall", this mod adds the Vault Dweller effect to a Vault Suit in Vault 81 with either 15%, 10%, or 5% damage reduction (selected at installation).
- No matter which installation choice is made for the Vault Suit, all randomly generated Legendary armor items will receive the 15% damage reduction effect.
- Saving Austin also adds a "Vault 81 Jumpsuit" and a "Vault 81 Jumpsuit - New" to Alexis Combes' shop inventory (they do not restock after purchase), as well as a "Vault 81 Jumpsuit" to the storage room near the end of the lower residential section of Vault 81 (at the end of the hallway where Dr. Forsythe's clinic is found).
- If Austin is not cured during the quest, you receive the "Childkiller" perk:
- If you use the Vault 81 cure on yourself, you receive the "Costly Cure" perk:
If you've already completed the Quest and let Austin die at the time of installation, the mod assumes you have used the Vault 81 cure for yourself and grants you the "Costly Cure" perk.
★ Installing
Note: It's good practice to create a clean, backed-up save before installing any Mods or Mod Updates - especially ones that use scripts. While this Mod's premise is simple and straightforward it may still cause unforeseen results during play.
How to Install Automatically
- Download / install "Improved Quest Rewards - Vault 81 Hole in the Wall" with the NMM direct link found above or navigate to the "Files" tab above and select the NMM direct link. Follow the instructions during installation in NMM to select your preferred version.
How to Install Manually
- Navigate to the "Files" tab above and manually download the latest version of the Mod.
- Choose the damage reduction percentage you would like the "Vault Dweller" Vault Suit to have and whether or not you wish the Mod to be compatible with the Armor and Weapon Keywords Community Resource (AWKCR).
- Open the appropriately labeled folder within the .RAR and extract the "Scripts\" folders & files and the "ImprovedRewardsVault81.esl" file to your "Fallout 4\data\" folder.
The files should be in these locations once extracted:
Fallout 4\Data\ImprovedRewardsVault81.esl
Fallout 4\Data\Scripts\Paucey_VS3.pex
Fallout 4\Data\Scripts\Paucey_LT.pex
Fallout 4\Data\Scripts\Fragments\Quests\QF_Paucey_Vault81Rewards_01000FA1.pex
- Add "ImprovedRewardsVault81.esl" to your mod load order.
★ Known Issues & Compatibility
For your safety ensure that you create a clean backed-up save before installing any Mod or any Mod Updates.
This mod doesn't change any vanilla forms or assets, however its scripts rely on several vanilla assets for scripts and properties. Any changes to those will be reflected. The mod also assumes the layout of Vault 81 and its objects remain largely unchanged in your game - in other words, ideal for an otherwise vanilla Vault 81 layout.
★ How it Works
Childkiller: This perk works similarly to the dialogue portion of the "Black Widow / Lady Killer" perks except instead of increasing the chance of success for dialogue challenges it lowers the chance of success and affects both men and women. The amount it lowers is equivalent to a single rank of Black Widow / Lady Killer (except, again, it affects both genders). This is more or less equivalent to the effect the perk had in Fallout 1 & 2 in which initial reactions from NPCs were lowered by 30. This effect does not affect Cait, MacCready, X6-88, or Strong (all of whom "like" it if you keep the Vault 81 cure for yourself).
Costly Cure: This one is pretty straight forward - increases your Endurance by 1 (as long as your Endurance is below 10).
Vault Dweller: This Legendary effect checks each time the player is hit whether the Player is in an Interior Cell or an Exterior Cell and adjusts incoming damage accordingly. Lowers both incoming Explosion and Weapon damage by 15%.
The Legendary Effect Spawning on Items: Avoiding altering vanilla assets for this was tricky but ultimately not impossible. Luckily the property in the Legendary Item Quest script that holds the array of Legendary Effects to add to items was not set as Constant and therefore could be accessed and altered by outside scripts, meaning I could inject my own Legendary Effect into it via script. I then needed to merge a new Instance Naming list with the original (also via script), add some keywords, and it all works just as if the effect had been vanilla.
★ Future Plans
- Release a version which substitutes the Legendary vault suit with a regular vault suit
- Refine / optimize scripts
- Release a version which doesn't rely on as many vanilla assets
- Release a version compatible with Faction Housing Overhaul
- Add audio cues to the Perk message boxes and add perk images / animations
- Add Armorsmith & Legendary Modification compatibility
★ Change Log
v0.31 - Added the Vault Dweller effect to spawn on Legendary items found on Legendary enemies. Created versions compatible with AWKCR.
v0.3 - Reworked the functionality of the Vault Dweller vault-suit, reducing it by 2 scripts and making it compatible for an eventual standard Legendary item effect that can appear on Legendary items. Also added rewards for letting Austin die and for using the Vault 81 cure on yourself.
v0.202 - Tweaked script
v0.201 - Fixed (embarrassing) oversight in script, and adjusted the in-game description of the legendary effect to be more in line with similar vanilla effects.
v0.2 - Initial release. Includes addition of Vault Suits to Alexis Combes, a vault suit on a lower level of Vault 81, and the legendary Vault Suit placed on the player's bed in Vault 81.[/spolier][/left]
