His default appearance is...sub-optimal, but I always found his story and character to be engaging and well done.
I tried many different presets for him and never really found one I liked out of the box. In the end, I used LooksMenu on him several times throughout several playthroughs and ended up with a look for him that I really liked. There are smatterings of other MacCready face mods as influence, but the face I am offering here is entirely unique.
My goal was to make him somewhat more believably 22 years old (He looks more like 25 or 26, but the wasteland is rough) and also a bit more wholesome. I always felt his default look was too...rat-like? He just looked like a sleazy 40 year old dude luring folks into alleys to be robbed.
I think I did a decent job of making him look rough around the edges, but also a young dad who has seen some shit, and also still a young man with hopes and dreams.
It will be exclusively a LooksMenu preset. That way if you want to tweak his hair, eye color, anything that doesnt suit you, there won't be any issues. I feel it is a better way to share faces for NPCs than an esp, which takes up a precious esp slot, and can potentially cause issues should it ever be removed.
My other big gripe was his outfit. The idea is there, but it wasn't to my taste. So I went about doing a bit of a themed mashup that I felt suited him. One thing I was fanatical about was maintaining the little quirks of his outfit. Namely the binoculars, the ammo straps, the pouches, and his watch. So all those pieces were detached and worked into the replacer.
The other element of his outfit that bears mentioning is the coat. I used the coat from Niero's Mojave Manhunter armor mod as a base, and with his permission, I am including the edited mesh. For the coat to appear as it does in the screenshots, you will need to download his 4k texture pack for Mojave Manhunter on his gumroad page. By default, it uses the Tan texture, however you can change it to use any of his color options by editing the mesh in nifskope.
Finally, I built the outfit on Bodytalk v3. I will not be rebuilding the outfit on a different body. The outfit is set up to use the BT3 sliders in Bodyslide, and I have included the Bodyslide/OutfitStudio files necessary to make your own edits and build the outfit to your preferred preset. As an optional file, I also included the slider preset I use personally, and which was used to achieve the look in the screenshots.
This mod is somewhat DIY because let's face it, the best mods are the ones you tweak to suit your needs perfectly.
Installation/Getting it All in Game:
- Simply drag and drop into Fallout4/Data for manual install, or use Vortex to install.
- As with any Bodyslide/OutfitStudio clothing, the clothing has to be generated in Bodyslide to show up in game. Just launch Bodyslide, load up "FS_MacCready_Wanderer_01" choose your preferred slider preset, and Build.
- Once in game, with MacCready nearby ideally, should you want to make adjustments, open the console and type
Go to presets, and select MacCready the Wanderer. Apply, then exit and save.
Obviously if there are any issues, missing files, etc, please comment and let me know so I can fix it. If you are having issues downloading Niero's 4k textures, please read his mod page for a proper explanation. It is linked below. If you are having issues with BodyTalk v3, please check the mod page for instructions, it is also linked below.
Disclaimer:
This mod does NOT add any unique textures, meshes, or materials to MacCready. All changes made to his face use vanilla assets and require no specific mods to work. However, if you want him to look exactly as he does in the screenshots, you need to be running all the mods listed below. If you are running different mods to affect face textures, hair, eyes, etc, you will not get precisely the same look as displayed.
The only texture included is the re-color of Gage's tanktop. It still uses the normal and specular maps for Gage's tanktop though, hence the Nuka-World requirement.
