Choose between 24 pop culture names for Dogmeat:
Mr. Peanutbutter, Barbas, Chewie, Doge, Donkey, Jake the Dog, K-9, Lapooh, Nibbler, Padfoot, Mr. Peabody, Rin-tin-can, Rowdy, Sandor, Santa's Little Helper, Scooby, Fluffy, Chase, Cosmo, Droopy, Lockjaw, Miss Peanut, Pongo or Snoopy!

The name is changed when you look at him, when give him orders etc. It's changed whether you "know" his name or not. The sole survivor should no longer call him Dogmeat when she/he sees him either.
Mama Murphy will still call him Dogmeat when you're supposed to learn his name. But that's because she's an old rag, and she's wrong.
He will be called Dogmeat during the quest "Reunion" too (the one where you're tracking Kellog).
I can't do nothing about that, because important sound files are involved. I haven't changed it in the quest descriptions either, for a certain continuity.
The rest of the time Dogmeat will become anyone you chose on the list above.
