    ***Flickering from light sources issue***
Flickering is caused by ENB Bloom and when FO4's "timescale" setting is set below 10 or so. For example, the Prewar introduction is defaulted to "timescale 0", so lights will always flicker during that intro with Subtle ENB. However, once the introduction is over, there should be no flickering at all.

If you are experiencing any flickering from light sources, please make sure your "timescale" setting isn't set below 20 (typically done in console).

More details in the Bugs section.

    ***Version 0.9.3c Update***
    1. As some users requested brighter nights, I decided it wouldn't hurt to bring back the ENB Bloom for nights in full force as users who prefer dark nights can always add the Darker Nights mod. Nights will be noticeably brighter and softer, but nowhere near the brightness of Vanilla. Lights will also give off a soft glow, similar to Vanilla.

Again, if you prefer very dark nights please use the Darker Nights mod alongside Subtle ENB. Don't avoid upgrading to 0.9.3c because of the slightly brighter nights either as the added bloom effect is essential.

    2. Slightly tuned down the ENB Bloom for interiors.

    3. I realized I had goofed with v0.9.3b and left the SFX Bloom disabled. However, after testing, I realized that it was negligible and redundant, so I kept it disabled in this version.

    ***Test Version in the works***
I've been experimenting with a few things and am thinking of attempting two things in the near future. Feedback would be appreciated.

    A. Reverting to Vanilla Bloom and adding SFX Bloom/HDR and doing away with ENB Bloom entirely. For one, ENB Bloom causes flickering during the introduction due to the timescale being set too low. Second, it gives a softness/blurriness that isn't in Vanilla at all. In fact, Vanilla bloom is done quite well and only selectively applied to very bright/reflective surfaces. SFX Bloom/HDR doesn't add softness (single pass?), so this version would have a "harsher" feel overall.

    B. Rebuilding Subtle ENB from the ground up using the Modular Shader Library (can be found on Nexus). I haven't experimented with it yet, but it might give me more/better tools for what I am trying to achieve. However, I am quite satisfied with v0.9.3c, but we never know...

    ***Enabling Letterbox/Pillarbox***
To enable/configure, press shift+enter while in-game to open the ENB Series menu. On the Shader Parameters panel, click ENBPOSTPASS.FX. Increase "Border:: Width Y" for letterbox or "Border:: Width X" for pillarbox. Make sure to click "Save Configuration" on the top-left ENB panel to save your settings.

Very nice ENB Preset! I like to stay as close to a Vanilla feeling as possible and this provides it perfectly but with superb colour correction.

Well done & thank you! ;-)

      Regarding test version feedback:

Wouldn't it look weird to use vanilla and SweetFX bloom+HDR at the same time? Is there a way to use just SweetFX? (maybe disable vanilla bloom+adaptation via ENB but don't enable ENB bloom+adaptation FX?) If not, then is there a reason to use SweetFX bloom/HDR at all versus just vanilla?

Vanilla Bloom is only applied to very specific objects and not on the entire screen for example. Beth just uses it to give a few objects, such as lights and reflective metal surfaces that halo effect and does not make everything soft/glow. Vanilla Bloom also doesn't make light sources brighter or bleed out to affect the overall ambient lighting. It strictly just creates a soft halo/glow around very specific objects.

ENB Series Bloom does it all to everything on screen: affects light sources/ambient lighting and gives off a lot of softness and glow.

SFX Bloom/HDR only affects the ambient/bleed lighting and does not produce a soft glow at all.

If I combine Vanilla Bloom with SFX Bloom/HDR, then I get what Beth intended to be glowing and the ambient/bleed adjustments that I need. If I just used ENB Bloom, I am limited by the amount of softness it produces on the entire screen. I can only go so much before I feel like it gets too fuzzy.

Overall, I am not sure if this combination will produce the best results. Just something I've been testing a bit.

@noidkid, do I have to disable any options with this config, such as TAA or Anisotropic filtering?

No, do not disable TAA or AF. In fact I recommend TAA with Subtle ENB as I have addressed the blurriness.

The only thing I recommend disabling is FO4's default DOF (if you're using my DOF). More details about that on my description page.

Thanks for explaining the flickering. I've used subtle ENB for a while, I just bought a new graphics card and started a new game at the same time and the flickering made me worried that they weren't compatible for some reason. Glad it's just the prewar scene.

Love this ENB, ran perfectly on my old graphics card (which is below Fallout 4's minimum specs) giving it a subtle improvement. Runs even better now on my new GTX 960 and makes the game look great. Excellent ENB for performance and I just like the way it looks.

I think the bloom removal idea sounds good, but it's hard to tell without seeing it in action.

I'm kinda curious about the SFX bloom instead of the ENB bloom as well.
I've noticed I often get a flashing due to the ENB bloom that sorta looks like camera flashes going off. I know it's the light hitting small reflective surfaces but it also oddly happens to trees. I've noticed that sometimes saving and reloading can decrease it though.
I could just disable the ENB bloom, but sometimes it looks so nice =P

Somehow had the flicker problem even though I never changed the timescale. "set timescale to 20" in console and it's fixed. Only thing I can think that would change the timescale is True Storms.

I was jsut wondering what graphical settings you have in your game. You see, I have the 960 aswell and wasn't sure it could handle subtle ENB.

You can run a 5 timescale if you want, but you'll end up eventually adjusting the Sun Update & Sun Timescale to match numerically to the ratio the vanilla game's 20 timescale was doing. Though that's only if it ever starts flickering to begin with. TS & (SU & ST) should probably match the vanilla ratio anyway rather than the FO4 Configurator recommendation for SU & ST being closer to a realtime effect instead of the simulation of it in regard to shadowing & lighting. Math, yeah, it's a thing.

Sticky is inaccurate, there's no way to set letterbox effect with this as the settings and files described don't exist.

There probably is a way to do letterbox if one shoehorns in the latest SweetFX (just SFX itself, not all the DLLs of course).

Still one of the best ENB ou there. From the many others I tried, this one has the best brightness and gamma adjustments results.

I forgot how good this DOF is! I used the DOF version back in the day on my potato. I just finally got the ENB working on NG update 2 today. Seems to work great no performance issues yet but I'm just a few hours in. Thank you so much for this timeless and classy ENB preset!

I ended up using the latest version of ENB to get it working 0.501. Just the Dlls. But I used the preset ini files and Enbseries folder. I seem to be getting the desired result. There seems to be a few extra features enabled by default that your ini files didn't address. skyambientcalculation, subsurface scattering, detailed shadows, water, puddle reflections, and complex parallax are all enabled by default. First thing saw reflections of settlers walking by the puddle in sanctuary and it looked great. So, i decided to leave it on, will experiment with all settings more. I imagine just turn off those extras and you would be about at the original?

I do see the blurriness with the water that the mod author mentioned when using above 0.291. Gonna add water mods and see where we get. ENB water actually looks pretty good but has weird edges/reflections. Any recommendations for water mods with subtle enb?

Is anyone running this set up with ELFX? Any recommendations for additional lighting mods with Subtle Enb?

Anyone running Seasons change with this?

Id love to find a way to add letterbox if anyone knows how I can do that. Can i just somehow drop the letterbox effect into my ini files.

Again thanks for amazing preset, been using this baby for years.

I'm using this with both ELFX and Vivid Weather; the combination is beautiful, and will probably always be my go-to lighting/weather setup. (I am, however, still on Old Gen, which may make a difference)

That doesn't work. The enblocal.ini has it set to 16, which supposedly is the default Shift+Enter. No shortcuts I've ever heard of for enb are opening it. My gods I'm stuck in dark shadowland here. I always use this ENB. I also just downgraded back to 1.10.163 because the nightmare that is modding with NG turned me off completely. I need my ENB!
  8. my god man, COMPARISON IMAGES. USE THEM.  all your screenshots are utterly worthless without a comparison image of the same scene at the same time.

I can confirm it works again. Download version .501 of enbseries and manual installing (vortex did not install correctly) 0.9.3c of this preset did it for me. I can not describe how I learned to hate vanilla look after the next gen update. I used to run this preset for about 7 years now. It feels like home again.

My favourite after testing a couple of the popular ones <3

I had to reinstall the game recently, forgot ENB and the difference with this mod is it's so much easier on the eyes than Vanilla. Thank you

Works for me, but man, it takes some finetuning.

For some reason, ENBs just make shadows into LITERAL VANTABLACK VOID. Anything that is not directly hit by a light source is just completely pitch black (Which looks hilarious when you're looking at your character and the shadows cast by your dang hair make half your face inky black... or your entire character in 3rd person if you're facing the sun... like I cannot even see Preston's face outside on a sunny day because his hat casts a shadow that makes his entire upper body pitch black.. It's just a mess - the stronger the light source, the blacker the shadows.

I gotta go play in the enb settings till I find a way to make shadows less brutally dark. or just disable both this and the weather mod
