Are you tired of Bethesda's "Mad Max Meets A Parody of 1950s America" aesthetic? Do you like throwing buzzwords like "tactical" and modular" around? Do you want assets for tactical gear that meet or exceed the base game in terms of quality, and are properly fitted to the Fallout 4 character's body? Do you leave weird comments on Garand Thumb videos?

Well, this mod includes all of that. This is something I've wanted to make for a very long time, and in spite of all of the tactical gear mods that exist, was never able to find something that I found satisfactory. So I took all the donation points I made from mods like Improved Follower Dialogue - Lydia and spent it on assets from CGTrader, and got some help from people who knew Fallout 4's engine a bit better than I do, and I made my own. It includes all the items in this article, because spoilers aren't working. With the full levelled list replacer installed:

-Gunners will wear high-end equipment in multicam
-The Brotherhood of Steel will wear high-end equipment in Coyote Brown and Desert Tan
-The Minutemen will wear cheap gear in Olive/Ranger Green
-Raiders will wear cheap equipment in green, brown, and black

All high-end plate carriers have loadouts for autoriflemen, breachers, engineers, grenadiers, JTACs, machinegunners, marksmen, medics, officers, and riflemen, which each loadout giving the player different bonuses. Likewise, cheap plate carriers have a light, heavy, and battle rifle loadout. All vests can have ballistic weave level IIIA plates, steel level III plates, UHMPWE level III+ plates, ceramic level IV plates, or enhanced ceramic level IV+ plates. Helmets can be equipped a wide variety of items, like headsets, night vision goggles, and lights.
At the moment, camouflage pattern material swaps include multicam, black, coyote brown, and olive green. Flannels, T-shirts, and hoodies can be adjusted in-game to better fit a plate carrier and reduce clipping.

Here's almost everything in one video:

Installation:
Preferably, use the FOMOD in MO2 (or Vortex) to set up the mod and select the options you want. If you prefer manual installation, drag the QualityTacticalGear.esp and .BA2s into your data folder. For levelled lists, select one of the .esps or .esls with "LL" in the name - they include a variant replaces all levelled lists for the Gunners, Brotherhood of Steel, Minutemen, and Raiders, one that only includes gunners, and one that injects the levelled lists into the gunners' existing levelled lists for compatibility with other mods, using this great utility made by DankRafft. Install the MCM files for functional night vision devices, and install "No sensitive item crafting" if you don't think it makes sense that you can make a pair of night vision goggles out of popsicle sticks.

I don't recommend using the bodyslide files I had left over when I made this, just because I put them together haphazardly, and then finalized the outfits when they had actually been processed through bodyslide. Using them WILL require some knowledge of OutfitStudio.

Credits:
This became something of a Co-Project to WhiskeyRiver223's work on Modern Firearms. He helped set the vision for this mod, and him and Blaze69 helped me understand how to work with meshes a lot better than I knew before. I also nabbed one of the assets Elianora put out to the public a while back, used some pairs of boots from the Wasteland Dapper Shoes Pack by Outrora, and used a free armor plate asset made by HKM4 on ArtStation. The Condor Plate Carrier was made by Carter Sheffield. Major contributors of the assets I bought for this include 3D Military Assets, Hussky9, Hyoon3D, and BogdanZhukov2012.

FAQ:
Q: Can you please make [x] version of levelled lists?
A: Possibly. I'd like to make patches for a few different mods going forward. I will also note that I hate using levelled list injection and really don't recommend it unless you absolutely want compatibility with other armor mods. It is a good workaround for compatibility issues and a well-made utility at large - DankRafft did a great job with it - but the entire concept of levelled list injection solves a problem that could easily be avoided if people knew how easy it was to make their own levelled list patches. It's one of the easiest things to do in CK. I might make a Youtube video on it at some point, but I'd venture to guess that someone has done so already.

Q: I'm noticing some clipping with some of the belts and armor.
A: I fitted the higher quality stuff using the Crye outfit, and the lower quality stuff on the 5.11 pants. Also, you can make the shirts clip less by changing them to the tucked in version at an armor workbench.

Q: Oh, great, one more Fallout 4 mod that makes the game look like Call of Duty. That's exactly what this community needs. Why don't you make a mod that adds a waifu follower while you're at it?
A: This mod encompasses a massive variety of equipment and offers a great deal of customization, as well as offering new gameplay aspects. It's more than just a tactical armor mod, it's a re-design of Fallout 4's armor system. Also, I've found that a common occurrence in the Fallout 4 modding world is that people will post screenshots of their character in a private tactical gear mod, and they hate being asked what armor mod is. Usually, if it is downloadable, it's in the ass end of someone's Discord server that you have to search far and wide for. Hell, I even went on a modding Discord server and asked about armor that was in a screenshot, and they had a pre-programmed bot tell me to fuck off. I give all due respect to the content creators here, because porting assets from one source to another is NOT a simple task - this project took me several months - but a lot of the existing content is borrowed from Call Of Duty or Rainbow Six Siege, which has a gap in overall asset quality compared to Fallout 4 - again, not the mod authors' faults, CoD/RSS and FO4 are functionally different and had different standards for quality. But everything here meets or exceeds the standard of mesh and texture quality established by Fallout 4. I also put a great deal of effort ensuring that everything was properly fitted and bone weighted to the Fallout 4 character's body. Lastly, I did all the loadout customization myself. Essentially everything that's on those vests, I put there for a reason.

Q: This still pisses me off. It seems like all people want to make for Fallout 4 is mods that are horribly un-lore-friendly.
A: Well, in all fairness, using the full levelled list replacer will have a serious effect on the atmosphere of the Commonwealth. But you know what, that's my intent. Every single Fallout fan seems to just HATE Fallout nowadays, so I'm helping contribute to that by making massive alterations to Bethesda's FO lore. Also, some guy is probably already commenting that Fallout 2 had guns like the P90, and Fallout's time deviation wasn't quite what Bethesda thinks it is, and the "Assault Rifle" in Fallout 4 is even dumber than we all think.

Q: There are SO MANY modern shooter games. It's such an oversaturated genre. I don't understand why'd bring that to Fallout 4 when there are a ton of games that cover that niche.
A: I would seriously disagree on that point. There are a lot of modern shooters that are centered around multiplayer gameplay. There are some great singleplayer titles, but to my knowledge, there has almost never been a good RPG/Action-Adventure Game set between 1945 and 2030. You could make the argument for Far Cry, but Ubisoft has a habit of making the most boring games known to mankind. Admittedly, I even found Far Cry 2, which was allegedly their best game, to be kind of boring. I probably shouldn't mention this, just because I doubt I'll actually do it, but I did have an idea for a total conversion of Fallout 4 back in early 2017 when I was in High School: Have a small, fictional country called "Zellenwald" roughly where Lichtenstein is. It's an absolute monarchy, because the CIA helped keep its sitting government in power to prevent a communist revolution in the 1960s, but through authoritarian mismanagement, it became the poorest and most tumultuous country in Western Europe, and as of the late 2010s, it's on the verge of civil war. The main character would be a foreign journalist, PMC, embassy guard, or a local. I'd try to borrow some assets from Beyond Skyrim to really make it look like a country with a living history. The only problem is that it'd be a huge undertaking, like Enderal for Skyrim, and that I'd probably have to cover some very controversial topics.

Q: Lichtenstein's population is under 100,000. Improved Follower Dialogue - Lydia has over 100,000 downloads. You could make Zellenwald real.
A: That's right, I could.

Q: Considering how you made Lydia act like an American in a historical Europe-inspired setting, I'm kind of glad you're not going to make a game set in Western Europe.
A: To be fair, Skyrim's dialogue is written like a combination of early modern English and 21st century American. It's really hard to write dialogue that feels like it's part of the base game because of that weird niche.

Q: Tank tops are missing from some of the male outfit variants.
A: The tank tops aren't on some of the male versions of the assets intentionally to show off the wonderful physique of the Fallout 4 protagonist.

Q: Will you add more camouflage patterns? I don't care about 9 different plate carriers that roughly all look the same, I want to make them different colors.
A: Adding camouflage patterns is a bit easier said than done, just because there are a ton of areas on each texture that shouldn't be replaced with camo, but I would like to add M81 Woodland, Tigerstripe, Flecktarn, Multicam Tropic, Multicam Arid, and Wolf Gray in the future.

Q: Can you please add JIZZPAT? It's my favorite camouflage pattern, it's absolutely perfect for hunting in northwestern Montana during the summer. It's so much better than multicam, which is way too ubiquitous in Western militaries in my personal opinion. It's a jack of all trades and master of none.
A: With how big this mod is already because of all the 4k textures, I really don't want to add every obscure camouflage pattern known to man.

Q: Why are there no patches? Half of the fun of these mods is flag patches. I really want to wear a patch on my plate carrier that says "BIG ANIME BOOBS ARE VERY GOOD" next to a picture of a waifu. I want to wear every blood type patch to look super tactical.
A: I will get around to either colored or subdued flag patches eventually, but the only flag patch I have right now is a U.S. Flag, and the texture for the stars and stripes are baked into the normal map. While I'd probably use the U.S. Flag myself as an American, I don't really want to release that feature without any real customization. Also, I hate "morale" patches. Sure, freedom of expression and whatnot, but MY GOD do they make people look like complete tools. At most, I'll include flag patches for Fallout factions and a bunch of countries.

Q: HELP THE BODYSLIDE FILES COME OUT ALL FUCKED UP!
A: Like I said before, be careful with those. They're really not made for general use. You really need to be a 3D artist or like, a level 10 coomer to be able to get them working properly. You'll also need to adjust plate carriers and other gear yourself, since Bodyslide can't really process those.

Q: I went down an insane porn rabbithole and now the only thing that gets me off is women in Crye apparel. I haven't gotten off in days because I can't find anything like that. Please fix the bodyslide files.
A: Consider learning how to use OutfitStudio. It's a really good, horribly underrated program that makes mesh editing much easier.

Q: Will you add standalone belts?
A: Probably not. I included belts with every plate carrier just because there really wasn't enough room on the carrier for all the gear without horribly overloading them. The JPC, AVS, and FCPC use the Ferro Concepts Bison Belt, the TBAS and AAC use a TYR Tactical Belt, and the LBT and CPC use an older "war belt" design.

Q: Okay, why does every single loadout have a horizontal mag pouch on the back of the belt? Why are you so obsessed with that setup?
A: It's really easy to reach in the prone (or even standing or kneeling), and if you're wearing a pack that has a large plastic frame like the MOLLE II, it pushes up on the frame and helps keep it high on your back, without having too much crap on the back of your belt. I'm a shorter person with a shorter back, and I exclusively used the MOLLE II ruck when I was in the army, and regardless of how much I adjusted that thing, it was always too big for my back. Whoever designed that thing assumed every U.S. soldier was like 6'2" and perfectly proportioned. The first time I rucked with a JPC and a gunfighter belt on, I was able to keep a faster walking pace than I ever have, even going up a hill.

Q: I've got to ask what you were thinking with the engineer loadouts. Especially on the AAC. A hammer and a wrench? Are you serious?
A: I'll admit that the engineer is the one loadout where I basically had no idea what the fuck I was doing. I never really worked with combat engineers, so I just tried to make them distinctive from all the other loadouts. The smithing tongs included in the base game look like bolt cutters, the fiber optic spool looks a bit like the the cord for a claymore mine, and having some tools on hand could help repair robotic companions, though I don't really think a hammer and a wrench would be enough.

Q: What the hell do you think combat engineers even do?
A: Look, I was in the infantry and I was a lieutenant, so by default, I'm an idiot.

For those of you who stayed until the end, my parting advice to you this: When I was still a cadet, one of my instructors told us that a uniform is just a costume if you don't uphold the values it represents. On the civilian side of things, I really have no problem with people wearing tactical gear and apperal on the range and would consider it "equipment" rather than a "uniform". But still, if you have this sort of stuff and you don't really train in it, it's just a costume. Uphold your values and your skillset. Don't turn yourself into someone wearing a costume. (I mean, unless you're an actor or cosplayer and that's your whole thing).
