The Martini Henry ICI Experimental

Planned release Friday 5th March

The Martini Henry, first used in 1871, is a breech loading single shot rifle that has seen extensive use across most continents and has upheld it's reputation for many years to come prior to it's conception. It's original .577/450 Martini–Henry round packs a real punch both down range and to the shoulder of the one shooting it, however it has been rechambered for the more common .308 round found in the commonwealth. A unique 50cal variant also exists out there.

This unnamed and rather experimental mark of the rifle is top secret and never reached any theatre of battle until now.
Closing on the end of the first world war the British attempted to adapt the rifle for various battle occasions before it was made obsolete, these modifications include an extended barrel, MK-II suppressor and anti aircraft iron sights, this ensured the rifle was useful under any circumstances especially as it was so wide spread across the planet. Welcome the Martini Henry into your armoury as the one shot-long reload power house that it is.

I absolutely love this, but I think the first thing I'll do is change the ammo type to .45-70. :D

You're choice of what to do with it :')
Tried to compensate with have the two variants, might add the .577/450 martini henry down the line and greener shotgun variants.

I love old guns, especially breech loaders, but in video games with more modern weapons alongside them, there's always a sliding scale choice of realism vs giving it enough oomph to make the low rate of fire or rare ammo worth the trouble.

On the realism side, chambering it with .308 makes the most sense, because the gun was chambered in the .303 British cartridge, as well, and those are comparable. On the MORE OOMPH side, .45-70 is closer to the original caliber, but with modern powder and a lighter bullet, delivers much more energy.

      Choices, choices...

Speaking of the .45-70... might you have any plans for a Sharps 1874 carbine?

    Yes!

However I read on multiple occasions that FO4's .308 round has issues with accuracy on long range shots in 1st person.

    Did you experience that too?

Yeah there is a small rng to long range shots, fixable with a long range scope...included :v
There is a 50cal unique too so keep an eye out for that.

It isn't the .308 projectile itself, but the aim model data used for the hunting rifle that is at fault, there. The hunting rifle's base minimum angle of fire, before accounting for accuracy bonuses from mods, crouching, ADS, or other effects, such as chems, is 4 degrees.

With the hunting rifle, crouching multiplies the minimum angle by 0.4, aiming with sights multiplies it by 0.8. Assuming the values are compounded, this yields a base minimum angle of 1.28 degrees, and higher level stocks, scopes, or other parts will decrease this incrementally. A long barrel reduces the ADS angle by 40% (MUL+ADD -0.4), and a full stock or marksman's stock reduces it by a further 40% (MUL+ADD -0.4). If these are compounded, this yields a minimum angle of 0.4608 degrees while crouching and using iron sights.

For comparison, the real-world M24 SWS, a military version of the Remington 700, is claimed (at least, by Wikipedia; I have no experience with it) to have an accuracy of "0.5 minute of arc," or 1/120 (0.008333...) of a degree. The Fallout 4 hunting rifle achieves an accuracy of... 27.648 arc-minutes (0.4608 degrees).

To be fair, these guns are up to 210 years old in some cases, give or take. Expecting anything more out of them would require that your sole survivor wander over to New Vegas and grab one of the lathes buried under Repconn HQ or Benny's secret hideout in the Tops Casino.

I think raisuli is mentioning inconsistent .308 bullet impact issue due to a flaw in casings' model path.

If you install the fix by Utherien in G3 Family mod page, it'd be all okay unless this mod touches the same casings path.

I hope Utherien's fix works, but it's another .esp.

Right now .45-70 sounds pretty good too.

      Thanks Bethesda.

I have never heard of that particular issue; what black magic (of the bizarre and noodly kind) was Bethesda working to cause that?

I think I read it on the FN Scar by sayaheca, I never really noticed it since I don't really use that
caliber much and I use VATS quite a bit.

But when I tried to snipe with that rifle chambered with the .308 round, I think I had some reflex sight at the time, I missed.....a lot,
changed it to 5.56 and didn't miss anymore.

That's just my experience, I do agree though if you use the hunting rifle with a scope the issue seems to be mitigated.
