I've actually been working on it again recently! I had a sick family member to take care of and college to finish the last couple of years + in summer of 2022 I joined the mod team for Fallout: Vault 13 as a level designer (The now shelved recreation of Fallout 1 in the Fallout 4 engine). So now I have some free time to work on this again apply the skills I learned from being a part of a larger mod team to further optimize Vault 17 and the custom textures. I'm hoping get better at fully "rustifying" stubborn vault assets that refused to correctly apply the rust textures. Most vault pieces and furniture use the textures correctly but a few just refuse to work right now lol. PS: I don't know if you noticed that "Bowen Bait & Tackle" is a reference to the ancestors of Lily Bowen's husband (who we never learn the first name of). Lily Bowen being a Nightkin companion in Fallout NV that used to be a resident of Vault 17 before the Master's mutant army invaded and took her to Mariposa.
Can't even begin to explain how much i've missed the rusty vaults of New Vegas and Fallout 3, Could you release it as a standalone for fallout 4 vault at some point :D
Eventually, I want to compile all of my rusty textures from the Vault 17 mod and sweep through all of Fallout 4's abandoned vaults to 'rust-ify' them and release that as a standalone texture mod.
Thank you! I really wanted to bring back the super rusty look of abandoned vaults from Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout 3, & Fallout: New Vegas. The abandoned vaults in Fallout 4 always seemed too clean to me. Since this vault was raided by the Master's army of Super Mutants over a hundred years before the events of Fallout 4 I wanted to make sure Vault 17 looked like it had been ravaged and abandoned for decades. Locations from previous games that helped inspire Vault 17's layout are: Vault 12, Vault 15, Vault 34, Vault 87, & Vault 92. I really want to make the rusty vault textures into a standalone mod to allow people who prefer incredibly rusty abandoned vaults to stylize their version of Fallout 4.
In terms of mod creation I just want focus on Vault 12 & Vault 17 right now but I have a few Ideas for Vault 1 which would have been present in Black Isle Studios cancelled Fallout 3 before Bethesda bought the rights to the franchise. I want to link my Vault mods together with a system I'm calling 'Tales From Vault-Tec' that would feature a book you could read in your inventory called 'Vault-Tec: A guide From 0 To 122' A brief description of every known vault will appear and act as a fast travel system to my Vault mods. The Vaults that have yet to appear in lore or do not have a mod associated with them will have black marker over their description. If however, someone makes a mod in the future that fleshes out the lore of an unknown vault I will add that information to my Vault-Tec guide with the mod authors permission. But a lot of that is just theory right now and I need more time design all of the visual components of the guide.
