This is a patch file that modifies your game's exe, meaning you don't need Cheat Engine for it to work.
Probably only works for Steam version, don't plan on buying the EGS version so I can't make it.
IMPORTANT INFO:
-There will be bugs, including missing/broken animations, and in some cases you can softlock yourself (I'll go over ways to prevent this below). For these reasons I don't recommend this for a first playthrough. You might be stuck without realizing it, and the sillier bugs can break immersion. I think the softlocks are always easily escapable by doing one of the following:
- Retry battle
- Re-load autosave or manual save
- Restart from checkpoint through the pause menu
- If you're completely unable to progress, close the game, restore your backup .exe, and restart from last checkpoint.
Play it safe. Keep a few save files, and save often (when you know you're not stuck).
-Highly recommend you stay mostly with Cloud during Nibelheim Flashback, particularly for the Mako Vacuum, sitting at benches, or the valve inside the reactor. Big glitches and potential crashes.
-Stick with Cloud when you're exploring a town during the main story. Weird stuff happens if you're controlling a character who's not meant to be in your party. It can even teleport you past event triggers, causing a softlock. If you see a smiley face icon above your head, switch back to Cloud immediately and see if you can progress (or reload to be safe).
-Only Cloud can mount/ride a Chocobo, or do the Chocobo catching minigame (and other stealth segments). Probably the same for other things that have unique animations.
-If a character gets stuck in a T-Pose, save your game and re-load (save in a new slot if you want to be extra safe, but it should be fine).
-World Intel should be fine to do. A lot of animations won't play correctly, but I don't think any will get you stuck. If Chadley calls it'll probably freeze up, but you can skip the scene most of the time.
-Occasionally Chadley calling will screw you. Some calls are un-skippable. In those cases you'll probably need to quit and re-load your last save.
- Minigames that force you to play as a different character MUST be started as Cloud, or the game will crash after the minigame is over, losing your score. Your first attempt may be buggy, but if you pause > Retry it will work correctly. This happens with the Yuffie Chocobo gliding minigame in Cosmo Canyon. Have not tested yet with others (such as Run Wild with Red XIII), but better to assume it has the same issues.
-Gold Saucer's very buggy. Characters hang out in different spots, causing teleporting, sometimes into space (if this happens you can't even open the menu. You can save yourself by switching to a party config that has someone other than Cloud or the out-of-bounds character as the leader). Feel free to experiment, just save beforehand.
Report any significant issues. I don't think there's anything game-breaking, but if there is let me know.
Installation:
VERY IMPORTANT: This game has 2 .exe files. One is called "ff7rebirth.exe", and the other is "ff7rebirth_.exe" (with an underscore). You want to patch the one WITH the underscore. It's located in this folder:
...\FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH\End\Binaries\Win64
1) Go to:
https://www.marcrobledo.com/RomPatcher.js/
(Should also work with any ROM patching site/software, such as Floating IPS, but these instructions are specific to this site)
2) Where it says "ROM file", click the box and select your "ff7rebirth_.exe"
3) Where it says "Patch file", click the box and select the mod file ("ff7rebirth_controlPartyLeader.bps")
4) Click "Apply patch" to download the patched version of your game.
5) Drop the patched file into the same directory as the original exe.
6) Rename the original "ff7rebirth_.exe" to something like "ff7rebirth_.exe.bak" so you can easily revert to the un-modded version.
(There is also a bps patch included to revert your exe, in case you lose your backup)
7) Rename the patched file from "ff7rebirth_ (patched).exe" to "ff7rebirth_.exe" so your game will read it properly.
