About this mod

While using pre-patch forge files & individual buildtables can make modding easier for us, some of our friends, and the public matchmaking world, don't always want to use mods. This will let you (a modding player) matchmake with non-modding/vanilla players, whereas before you could not.

While using pre-patch forge files & individual buildtables can make modding easier for us, some of our friends, and the public matchmaking world, don't always want to use mods. This will let you (a modding player) matchmake with non-modding/vanilla players, whereas before you could not.

Effectively, what you will need as a modding player, is AnvilToolKit (which you should already have and no doubt be using), and these .metafiles, which are my from the vanilla version of my DataPC_Patch_01.forge and DataPC_Resources_Patch01.forge files.

HOW TO PLAY WITH VANILLA PLAYERS WITH A MODDED GAME.

  • Download the Vanilla metafiles provided.
  • Now, head over to your Extracted folder and open the corresponding .forge files mentioned above.
  • In each .forge folder we have for DataPC_Patch_01.forge & DataPC_Resources_Patch_01.forge, find your .metafile and rename it, making ".metafile.bak", this is your backup, should something not work for you.
  • Now, take the vanilla .metafiles from the downloaded .zip and place each in their respective locations within your Extracted\ forge files (patch_01 and resources_patch_01, they are labelled to where they go).
  • With your current metafiles now labelled as .bak files, note the number on your metafile .baks, and change the number or ID of each vanilla file to that number. So patch_01's ID will be matching your patch_01 metafile.bak and same for resources_patch_01 metafile.bak.
  • Now, repack both .forge files
  • Enjoy playing Ghost Recon Breakpoint with vanilla and modded players alike!

So far, this has worked with other vanilla players in coop mode. Testing for Ghost War and Raids still needed. If you perhaps have a modding player in amongst vanilla players, or are having issues connecting to somebody else, just try this. Absolute game changer. And even more fun, if you're running mods like Fear The Radio and Thank The Radio, as the host, when people join you, vanilla or modded, they'll get to experience the madness of those mods alongside you! Awesome eh?!

IF YOU HAVE MODDED OTHER FORGE FILES, READ THIS:

Players who have modded more than just their DataPC_patch_01 and DataPC_Resources_patch_01 forge files may need to put back their original metafiles in those other files as well. For example, one user had modded their DataPC.forge, DataPC_extra_patch_01.forge, and DataPC_TGT_WorldMap_Windy_Split_patch_01.forge as well, and they found that just replacing the original metafiles in DataPC_patch_01 and Resources_patch_01 still caused them issues with this working, due to them having modded other forge files beyond these two. You must replace the original metafiles in the other .forge files that they've modified in the same way.

"SO WHAT DO I DO?"
If you have modded other forge files, you will find the vanilla .metafiles from them, which can be found in your Backup folder. Simply unpack those forge files in Backup, copy the .metafile, and rename your existing .metafile in said forge files with the .bak extension we have in the steps above. Then, paste in the vanilla, rename the ID to match your modded forge file .metafile (which is now a .bak, i.e. backup), repack, and it should work. These are the same steps as above mostly. Good luck, have fun!

Big thank you to Kamzik who basically told me to try this out and it should work. You were indeed right, cheers Kamzik!

Tested working so far in:
Co-op
Ghost War
Raids (some people experience crashing)

NOTE: Matchmaking in a public Erewhon lobby - where you join people in your Erewhon bivouac, has been noted to cause issues, but it's likely a modding issue, not a metafile issue. Just switch Erewhon bivouac to not be public and matchmake publicly via the menu, avoiding having Erewhon as a public lobby.
