The PC version of Grand Theft Auto 5 was released in April 2015. Since then, the mod community around the open-world game of Rockstar Games is extremely active and releases one modification after the next.

You are spoiled for choice. Whether graphical improvements, new vehicles and outfits or even completely new sections in the game world, missions and the like - there are modifications for almost all game areas.

Only console players look in the tube. Whether you play GTA 5 on the PlayStation 3 or the PlayStation 4 and on the Xbox 360 or Xbox One, these versions can not be changed.

For all PCler, however, we present in the following mod directory for GTA V. We also tell you how to install mods and what to pay attention to.

Install mods for GTA 5

Mods for GTA 5 can be based on different systems. Some are just scripts that customize the characteristics of the game. Others, however, modify game accounts or add new ones. So you have to do a few things to prepare yourself for the different types of mods.

A total of four "programs" you have to download, so you are ready for the mods to GTA 5:

  • ScriptHookV: Just open the downloaded archive here and unpack all files into the main directory of GTA 5.
  • OpenIV: Once you've downloaded OpenIV, the file just runs and installs the program. You also have to specify where GTA 5 is installed. In addition, it is recommended to create a folder called "mods" in the directory of GTA 5 so that you have a better overview.
  • ScriptHookVDotNet: After you have downloaded the file »ScriptHookVDotNet.zip«, it opens. In it you will find the files »ScriptHookVDotNet.asi« and »ScriptHookVDotNet2.dll«, which you simply have to copy into the main directory of GTA 5.
  • Rage Plugin Hook: Again, this is an archive that you need to extract into the GTA 5 game directory. Note, however, that the folders "SDK" and "Licenses" are not needed.

Once you have done these steps, nothing stands in the way of the mods to GTA 5. Once you have downloaded a mod, it is best to look in the readme file, where you will be told how to install the respective mod.

But attention: Modifications are only in offline mode, so in the single player campaign safe to use. If you start the multiplayer GTA Online mode with a twisted version of GTA 5, you run the risk that Rockstar Games will ban you from the game. Practical helper: Mod Manager.

If you just want to install one or two modifications, for example, to pimp up GTA 5 graphically a bit, then you can easily keep track of that. But since there are now almost infinitely many mods, this number could grow quickly.

Then the GTA V Mod Manager will help you manage the modifications. During the installation of the program it asks directly where GTA 5 is installed on your PC and where the mods are stored. Then you can start it and simply enable or disable the mods as you like.
