Project Marine is not a mod for the faint of heart, or the easily frustrated - You will die. A lot. As you have no recharging energy shields, every shot you take will chip away at your max health. Health packs on the map will become essential to fueling your progress. To this end, an image has been supplied in the zipped mod folder with exact locations of health packs on the map, in case you don't have these locations memorised from past playthroughs. You don't need to use this image if you don't want to, but trust me, you don't want to miss a health pack here.
Below is a summary of the notable changes of the mod (The full changelog is contained within the readme file in the zipped folder)
- Player HUD colours have been changed from blue to green. Covenant/Plasma weapons have a purple HUD tint instead.
- Player character is swapped for a marine - Player mode/character, voice, and health have been changed to reflect this. The player has no shields, meaning all damage taken is subtracted from max health.
- Player can only use marine-capable weapons & vehicles ; below is a list of what the player *cannot* use.
- Plasma Pistol
- Rocket Launcher
- Scorpion Tank
- Banshee
**Important**
Player now stumbles/flinches from attacks. During this time, you will *not* be able to attack. I wasn't entirely sure about leaving this in, but decided to in the end. This may cause some frustration :)))
(Taking too much damage in a short amount of time will cause you to flinch.)
Players will also take roughly ~0.6 second to cook a grenade before throwing it - grenade throws are no longer instantaneous.
Player melee damage has been halved across the board, and the player can no longer assassinate unsuspecting enemies. This is true even for sleeping grunts, meaning that it may sometimes be better to simply sneak by instead (or stick a plasma 'nade to their back). The sniper rifle and needler will do bonus damage, though still not equal to a Spartan's melee.
