About this image

Just a compilation/timeline of the MANY depictions of Spinosaurus through the years.

When I was younger (about 7 or 8, I believe), I fell in love with Spino after watching it destroy my least favorite dinosaur (at that time), the obnoxiously over-popular T. rex.  It was bigger, it had a very different head, it had a sail, it had big arms, it was cool!  I should note that I first saw it in about 2007-2008.

As more depictions came out, I kept liking it as my favorite, with the best ever being the 2011 Dinosaur Planet Spinosaurus, and/or the 2013 depiction (for the sail, anyways).

Then 2014 happened.  I hated the quadruped version.  It just didn't fit it for me.  The 2014a short-leg biped (first really experienced with Digital Duck's original Accurate Spino mod) helped me like the new sail and proportions a lot more, and even accept them.

And then, 2019/2020 happened!  And Spinosaurus, somehow, became a FISH!  Not even more crocodile like, a fish!  It is so hard to even add spikes and scutes along this new tail in a way that looks cool!  I liked it as a dinosaur/crocodile mix, not as an eel crossed with a some lizard and a croc!

Maybe over time I will figure out the right tail-to-everything else ratio to get myself to like it again, I can only hope so.  I hold on to Sigillmassosaurus as a real species in hopes that the newer, weirder parts currently attributed to Spinosaurus are found to actually belong to the Sigil.  I like having a giant Spinosaurus as my favorite dinosaur, but this latest look is making me lean towards my runner-ups:
Allosaurus (papo/JWE look because nothing says they didn't have back spines like that),
Ceratosaurus (JP colors, but with accurate shape),
Carnotaurus (JWFK shape or accurate shape), and
Dakotaraptor (my Native American-inspired depiction, which looks surprisingly logical and also very cool (I have an OLD image upload post about it)).

Consider this a tribute to the many faces of Spinosaurus.

And, comment below what your favorite one has been? (coloration does not have to be exclusively from the list above, my own favorite isn't even up there!)

How do you feel about the Spino-fish-o-saurus they have right now?

What is your history with the largest carnivorous dinosaur ever?

What do you think the next change will be?

(you don't have to answer all of these questions, just feel free to answer at least one of them, because I am kinda curious, myself)

In 2021 we discovered, that Spino looked more like the JP3 one which we all grew up with. He has small legs and the big tail, but he was bipedal (on
two legs) id recomment you that video. He tells why Spinosaurus wasn't a "fish" or "Corcodile" but more like a "Bear"

See, that tail looks fine.  It looks like tails from the 2014a short biped look.  Like a croc tail, which makes sense.  Are you saying that this new info just came out in the last 3 months?

If someone made a mod for that, I would like the coloration of the 2011 Dinosaur Planet Spinosaurus as one of the skins/options, if possible.  That is my favorite Spinosaurus ever, especially for pattern.  I even built it out of Legos, and have it on my display shelves in my room.  Each badn of the sail is brick-built seperately from the others.

Poor Spino: can't go 2 years anymore without getting another redesign!

Just watch the video. It's not about his Tail, it's more about his posture.

But that is my problem: the tail!  Look at the tails of lungfish and eels!  That is what the new spino tail looks like, and I really don't like it!  It looks too strange!  That is what I mean by Spino-fish-o-saurus, not the swimming.  I like swimming.  I like the standing.  I like the balance of the two.  I don't like fish tails on dinosaurs!  It looks weird!  Maybe that more croc-like tail in your first pic is the better balance that I may like, but it would take time.

I personally love the new tail of the spinosaurs, just because it makes it more unique, than other Theropods since there aren't any other semi-aquatic Theropods in any other family than Spinosauridae ( as far as I know atleast). I've always loved Spinosaurus for it's weird and Uniqueness. The main problem I have now is, somethings changed. Again. Yep a new Behavioral theory for this guy has already come out. Spino is no longer semi-aquatic but instead lived in a similar niche to Storks, meaning: It didn't swim at all. which is disapointing since I fell in love with the concept of semi-aquatic Spinosaurids. I'm guessing they'll probably remove the tail which I would find sad but I'd get over it. Then again the concept of a swimming Spino is still being debated. Although I really hope that the semi-aquatic swimming Spinosaurus prevails.

Yeah, I agree. Like, if you aren't gonna make it look badass then please just let it swim!

I grew up with the boss T-rex killer from JP3. Then it changed and after some time, i fell in love with that quadrupedal design. But it was proved wrong. The new design is much more like my childhood monster. I like it. The animal was just like this and we always have to accept new discoveries.

If it makes you feel any better, 2021 spino isn't a primarily swimming animal. still looks the same though
