About this image
My N. Salerii mod is complete (as a replacement for Metriacanthosaurus) but since there is a new update coming in a week or two, I'm wondering if I should make it a new species anyways. Or, as an alternative, it could be a temporary replacement until new species is updated for the future (besides, updating old replacers is easy). For those who don't know how to make new species, it takes around 4 hours to get it working, and that's disregarding text edits, environmental needs, icons, etc. However, if people want a new species for a week despite this, I honestly wouldn't mind it. You decide.

BUT
If you plan to turn it into a new species, the texts, stats and so on need to be created anyway? That would most likely not be wasted time. I have not created my own new species mod, but i assume, that there is a 50/50 chance that the next update either breaks your code (or even worse the model) completely vs only minor changes are needed. That is a gamble. Is it a learning/experimental experience for you?
In the end, it is up to you.
