Parasaurolophus is a hadrosaurid (sometimes called a duck-billed dinosaur) from approximately 76.5-73 million years ago (late Cretaceous). It is a herd animal feeding on the park's rich vegetation. The most stunning feature of the Parasaurolophus is the crest on its head. Scientists were unsure of its function until today. Some believed it was a snorkel for when the animal was in water. others felt that it was used in combat.
This playful North American dinosaur uses its hollow crest to communicate with other members of its herd. Like other members of the Hadrosaur family, it lacks defensive abilities and will seek safety in the superior numbers of its herd.
Parasaurolophus lived in small groups of 4 members, but have been seen in groups of 10 to almost 20. Females are green in color and may have red and dark blue or white stripes, while males are yellowish or beige, with a red neck with an orange stripe and a brown back.
Parasaurolophus groups work in two ways, either they are a large mixed group of other hadrosaurs or other species, like Gallimimus, Brachiosaurus, Mamenchisaurus or others, or only Parasaurolophus, both work in similar ways, a parasaurolophus keeps watching the group to warn if they are in danger, this discovery was made by Biogeneticist and Paleogeneticist Laura Sorkin.
