Why I made these fixes:

I actually want to make much bigger mod projects but I felt the need to really get to know the vanilla game. I have been playing it for hundreds of hours with no mods to really immerse my self in the art direction of the game and how it is designed. I did this play through with out using dojos etc. Then recently I started combing through the vanilla game's data in the FCS relevant to the things I first want to start modding. And when I noticed mistakes, which there are many of, I rectified them so that I have a more structured foundation to actually build mods with a large scope on.

How it works on your end:

All you have to do is install the mod files here but make sure they are at the very top of your load order so that any other mods you have may overwrite them. These mods are designed to be an extension, or update if you would, to the vanilla game. So by loading them at the top of the load order, it loads right after the vanilla game does and then all the other mods get loaded after it so they over write what came before.

What each mod does:

  • KS Vanilla Fixes - Rusted Junk Normal Map:
This adds a normal map to the Rusted Junk weapon quality texture. The normal map is in the vanilla game files, just not attached to the weapon quality data in the FCS. A normal map is an invisible texture that lets the game render highlights and shadows to a 2d surface to help it look a bit more 3D in such a way that can even react to lighting conditions in the game. Every other weapon quality has theirs attached to just not this one. And it does look better if you zoom in on a sunny day.

  • KS Vanilla Fixes - Weapon Distribution:

It fixes the weapon distribution values for basically every NPC in the game, Many NPCs actually have multiple weapons assigned to randomly spawn on them but they don't because the chance value on all the weapons is 0 which the game defaults to infinity I think... anyway the result is only one of those weapons spawn. He also left many values for if it goes on hip or back at 100. The value is meant to be 0 or 1. So the game defaults everything to back. This is why you see npcs with a single Wakizashi on their back and why most vendors have their side arm on their back. This mods fixes that! And makes it more immersive too.. I always hated seeing vendors with backpacks have a single katana on their back it looked so dumb.

This does NOT make it so iconic npcs change their weapons. Except for moll who has her two katanas on her back now rather than only one of them spawning on her hip. I can't stress enough how much time I spent making sure the game still feels like vanilla kenshi and making sure this is a fix as I kept asking my self what the game dev was intending in the artistic expression of Kenshi.
I made sure to keep the vibe even with standard NPCs, so I made sure that regimented NPCs with their iconic weapons stayed the same in-game. So holy paladins wont have a chance of spawning with horse choppers even if it is in their data, But cannibals might get a long cleaver instead of just flesh cleavers.. etc.

I even took into consideration the game lore about weapons. So horse choppers tend to be more common and toppers do make a bit of a come back but they are rare.

Compatibility:

I have yet to find a mod that is incompatible with these mods as long as you load them after these mods. I have tested many many mods and looked at it in the FCS. I want to make a video on how to make a compatibility patch for the weapon distribution fix but have yet to find a mod on steam that is not compatible with it. There are many more to test though so hopefully I should find one.
