Tired of the "Bad Back" perk ruining your Hardcore experience?
This mod gives you full control over its effects with a set of modules – from removing annoying voice lines to introducing new strategic elements like potion-based relief and horse burden adjustments.
Modular Design – Customize Your Pain!
Choose what fits your playstyle. Combine modules freely – or just stick with the main file.
The main file is the combination of all modules (except "Still Running"). You can either pick everything with the main file, oe choose each feature individually with the modules that you can find in the optional files.
Main File | Bad Back - Perk Rework
The perk still triggers, so the Hardcore experience remains intact — but it's much more tolerable now and comes with other challenges instead.
Optional Modules
If you're using both Less Painful and Still Running, make sure Still Running loads after to preserve sprinting functionality.

Main File | Bad Back - Perk Rework
- Completely removes the repetitive voice line from the Bad Back debuff.
- Retains the subtle bone-cracking sound for feedback.
- Horses and saddlebags carry less - they've got bad backs too (This module works outside the scope of hardcore mode too).
- Embrocation potions of normal quality or higher will now negate the movement speed reduction while active.
The perk still triggers, so the Hardcore experience remains intact — but it's much more tolerable now and comes with other challenges instead.
Optional Modules
If you're using both Less Painful and Still Running, make sure Still Running loads after to preserve sprinting functionality.
- Less Painful
Medium- or high-quality Embrocation potions remove the movement penalty from back injuries. - Still Running (Standalone only)
Allows sprinting even when injured. Note: Not included in the main file to preserve vanilla challenge. - No Talking
Disables the voice lines when the back injury debuff triggers – only a bone-cracking sound remains. - Weak Horses
Halves the carrying capacity of saddlebags and horses. Now they suffer with you!
