Overview
Experience Spider-Man 2 with a tweaked out the wazoo traversal system that prioritizes physics, momentum, and skill. This mod transforms how you swing, jump, and move through New York City by enhancing the physical properties of Spider-Man's movement to create a more visceral, rewarding experience inspired by the legendary physics system from the classic 2004 Spider-Man 2 game. (Yes, affects both Peter and Miles!)
Core Design Philosophy
- A greater emphasis on physics - Ramped up physics based parameters to force the player to commit to their swings and engage with the game's traversal mechanics to create a stylish rhythm - in a way to try and emulate that "hard to master" feeling you may have gotten playing the Spider-Man 2 of old.
- Ramped up speed and removed annoying nerfs - This game already features a pretty great traversal system - but its held back by some rather baffling design decisions. Why is it that some of the only consistent ways to gain speed are by using gimmicks? This mod attempts to provide you with more options - but be aware that the gimmicks provided by the game now have their place as an easy way in to faster speeds - with the increased commitment to movement, you will need to plan your swing route more thoroughly.
- Consistency - Changes have been implemented throughout the game's traversal systems to ensure everything integrates as smoothly as possible.
➤ Ramped up Gravity System
- Significantly increased gravity parameters create more pronounced arcs and a stronger sense of weight (More dramatic swing trajectories with satisfying momentum peaks)
- Increased physical feedback during all movement types (jerk, wind resistance, commitment, and velocity)
➤ More Physics-Based Web Swinging
- Webs now behave more like a real pendulum,
- Everything from web tightening and extension to web-length has been tweaked.
- During the trough of your swing, you will feel a lot more weight as your momentum carries you forward more believably and makes for some pretty dramatic swings.
- Momentum can be gained gradually by timing your swing releases, zips and jumps just perfectly. Experiment and find your own unique style
- It is now easier to trigger a loop-de-loop
- No longer arbitrarily change direction in mid air.
- You will need to make skillful use of your web wings, zips, and dodges to change your direction, or throw your webs out and aim your swings a bit more tactfully.
- Amplified drag, jerk and other physics based parameters means Spidey feels like he has more weight when moving through the world.
- Feel like a real superhero - Jump further, sprint faster, wall-run at greater than snail-paced speeds.
- Web zips are much more impactful on your speed. You are a man with super strength pulling himself forward using an almost unbreakable rope - you should go far!
- Utilize free dives and the power of gravity to your advantage. Watch as your momentum carries through more believably in everything you do. Gain enough speed and you will feel like a wrecking ball flying through the city, with the agility of a real spider.
Gameplay notes
This mod is designed for the following settings:
- Swing steering assistance at 0
- Either FOV 25 Swing Camera Motion 10, or
- FOV 0 and Swing Camera Motion 0
Expect bugs! Still WIP.
Installation
Simple .stage based mod. Install as any other using Overstrike.
