About this mod
Vanilla-friendly; better dodges, invincibility while staggered, make Blade Mode cancels obsolete, other various enhancements
- Permissions and credits
v1.0
- See full description below changelog
v1.1
- Uses Assorted VFX Fixes as a base for moveset VFX changes; doesn't use all of the VFX mod files, though (last VFX update: 9/4/2024)
- Removes the property of Ripper Mode that turns sword trails red
- Restores blue lightning on HF blade in Ripper Mode
- Increases speed and expands anim-cancel window of Sky High
Makes Raiden's Murasama trails appear more like Boss Sam'sThis change is rolled back in v1.3
- Removes remaining red glow on Raiden's sword in Ripper Mode
- Removes blue "True Blade Mode" sword trail, making Blade Mode and Ripper Blade Mode truly identical
(Partly because the blue color looks weird showing up on the Murasama. The effect is also now consistent with DLC Sam.)
- Slightly sped up Ninja Run start/stop, also removed startup noise
- Fixed some of Raiden's light attacks that have a very high chance of whiffing in vanilla
With this mod, you can play at that high, high speed, without these drawbacks — when you perform an attack, the moment its hitbox ends, you will be able to cancel into another attack. In the case of moves that restrict Blade Mode, the cancels have been adjusted so you can attack equally as fast as you can enter Blade Mode.
Raiden's dodge is despised by a lot of players for feeling so sluggish. Half the reason it feels so bad is that the animation itself is unnatural and slow.
I edited the left, right, and backwards dodge animations so Raiden travels the same distance, but comes to a more natural stop. I've also made these animations play 20% faster.
Certain moves in Raiden's kit seem to have been neglected by Platinum Games — his uncharged quickdraw, for example, won't let you do ANYTHING until Raiden completely returns to his idle pose.
I've fixed this and the strange behavior/restrictions of other moves, such as Raiden's fifth midair light attack, or his head cracker.
Everybody hates getting staggered. You have to drop everything and do a little button mash minigame, but DO IT QUICK OR YOU'LL GET HIT!
Unfortunately I wasn't able to remove this feature completely. But I added invincibility frames to the main stagger animations, so although you'll still have to mash to escape, there's no longer that ticking clock of incoming damage to stress you out.
This mod includes other changes too. In general, I believe this is the best vanilla-friendly combat modification for Raiden. Installation instruction will be included with the download.
Happy ripping!

This mod has major similarities with two other RECENT "improved Raiden" mods:
Windbreaker Raiden by Ryxden
Super Raiden by Sp00ky
We know each other, and each other's competing projects. Similarities between these mods represent agreements on how we believe Raiden needs to be changed, NOT sToLeN content or ideas. Further, we've all been brainstorming ideas for this concept for several months — it's too broad of a concept to belong to any one person.
but Sp00ky did totally steal my dodge anims without credit so I stole like two files of his >:D
