About this mod
Defense Boost is a mathematically bad defense skill, so this mod buffs it. Comes with your choice of 3 different levels of buffing.

if you're still not convinced it's a pretty trash skill in vanilla.
So, what this mod does is buffs it. I've opted to only buff the % def increase, since that both translates to a % effective health increase, and buffing the flat amounts might make it kinda silly in low rank or something. (EDIT: actually in the latest version I changed the high version's flat boosts to match the % boosts, cuz otherwise it looked kinda silly. This does mean max rank goes from +35 flat to +40 flat but whatever.) And the elemental resist bonuses are fine, I think. Anyway, since I'm sure not everyone would want to buff this to the same degree, I've included 3 different versions, that all buff by different amounts. The % def increase per rank is as follows:
Vanilla (for comparison)
0/0/5/5/8/8/10
Low (basically double vanilla):
0/0/10/10/15/15/20
Mid (rank 3 is less than low but whatever):
0/0/5/10/15/20/30
High (mirrors crit eye scaling):
5/10/15/20/25/30/40
While High might seem silly strong, honestly if you think about it it's still not that strong. It becomes the strongest defensive skill when maxed (a little over +40% effective health increase) but it still takes a whopping 7 slots to do so and HB3 is still an effective health increase of 33% sooo yeah. Then again damage mitigation also effectively makes your healing more powerful, and a Defense Boost +5 charm exists, so it's not that hard to max. I'd say the only one I feel good about actually being balanced instead of kinda cheaty is the Low version. But you can just pick whichever you'd prefer anyway.
I've also included a file that patches the skill descriptions appropriately so that it displays the modified values in-game when you're hovering over the defense boost skill description. It would feel half-assed to me without it, I think. But I only included a patch for the english file because I'm lazy.
huge shout-outs to LordGregory/Synthlight for his MHW Editor tool found here without which I would be wholly incapable of making this mod.
Installation is simple, just drag the nativePC folder included in the .zip file to the base MHW directory, same as every other mod. Do note that this will of course conflict with any mods that write to the same file, including my 'diving blessing secret consistency' mod. They're technically compatible since they don't overwrite the same data, but they do overwrite the same file that contains all that data, so you'd have to edit them together to get all the mods you want. I'm not about to make a different amalgamated file for every permutation of skill mods on this site, so it'll have to do for now.
