About this mod

Certain gunlance actions are too punishing or needlessly clunky to perform, especially with Iceborne's much faster monsters. This mod makes gunlance flow much better to compete.

I was frustrated with how clunky and slow some of the gunlance's moves are, along with how attempting certain crucial actions in Iceborne (like using wyrmstake or going for a full burst on a normal-shell build) felt like suicide. I present an altered gunlance moveset that makes gunlance more intuitive so you can focus on doing the actions you want instead of hoping that you won't get killed just for trying what seems to be intended.

Moveset changes:
  • All instances of rising slash (△+O) have been replaced with overhead slam. This makes using a normal-shell gunlance for full burst viable against faster monsters that would never sit still long enough for it normally.
  • Attacking (△) directly out of a step dodge will perform a lunging upthrust instead of a lateral thrust. This significantly aids repositioning against more mobile monsters so you don't spend so much time spamming hop or sheathing/unsheathing. If you don't want to do lunging upthrust, you can still use guard thrust (R+△) out of step dodge instead.
  • Attempting to shell (O) directly out of a step dodge is now enabled, rather than always doing a full reload. Charged shelling can also be done this way. No more accidental reloads!
  • Reloading (R+O) directly after a step dodge will perform a quick reload. If you need to reload wyrmstake, you can do the input again in quick succession right after this quick reload or wait at least a fraction of a second after step dodging.
  • Wyrmstake thrust can now be performed straight after normal/charged shelling with △+O (rather than rising slash). The thrust will be in the same direction as your prior shelling.
  • Wyrmstake can now be applied directly out of a lateral thrust or guard thrust with the same input as wyvernfire (R+△+O). Use this to place wyrmstake blast at the start of an encounter!

I tried several things to make the recovery time on full burst and wyrmstake less bizarrely slow (often guaranteeing a trade of hits even despite their now easier initation), but I couldn't find a way to speed them up or allow canceling into guard. It turns out that Schinkikami found a solution to this by modifying animation files to add guard points to the gunlance's slower moves: wide sweep, full burst, and wyrmstake. He has kindly allowed me to repackage the part of his Reworked Gunlance mod that accomplishes this: `nativePC\hm\wp\wp07\mot\w07_00\w07_00.lmt`. His mod does some other cool things like removing the counterproductive distinction between normal/long/wide shelling, better wyvernfire wakeups, optional quick reload super armor, and more! Compatibility: This shouldn't cause any problems in online, but you should only use it when playing with people who have given you permission. The moveset alterations are entirely contained in wp07_action.fsm, but this is otherwise be compatible with other mods.
