So... I'll definitely be needing some help here. With pretty much everything.
This is my first ever attempt at a creature model for Morrowind, and I must say it is rather daunting. Hopefully the end result is that it's all worth it in the end! :D
WOW! I was hoping someone will do it. But I was never truly belived. Can't wait! Can't wait! Can't wait! I know there is still much to do but that is awesome already!
Thank you! ESO's Dwemer Spider has been my personal favorite iteration for the Elder Scrolls series. While this one will not be a replacer, I may try and improve the Vanilla's appearance eventually. Next up after this, though, is Skyrim's Dwemer Centurion Spheres and a special Titan for starwarsgal.
Well I didn't even noticed any difference between ESO and Skyrim versions of the spider... But if you say so. And I agree that Skyrim spheres are the best yet.
So are you intended not just replace Morrowind spiders with this new ones but rather add an extra variation? That's cool.
I'm just curious about how people see the difference between Morrowind and Skyrim/ESO Dwemers. For me it is a plain and simple redesign but for some there is (and approved by Lore) two entirely different Dwemeri fractions. And what is your thoughts?
I feel that there are at least two separate dwemeris factions (whether or not there are entirely is up to lore, I honestly hadn't checked into it): The Eastern Dwemer and the Western Dwemer (i.e., the ones which Volendrung is tied to). The "Northern Dwemer" is an unofficial 3rd party of Dwemer that are an unofficial combination between the two, which is where you see Skyrim's Dwemer. While there's no actual lore linkage there as far as I know, that's how I view it as.
ESO is "Western Dwemer" (Which focus more artistically on a modern approach for Dwemer), Morrowind is "Eastern Dwemer" (Which is more stooped in traditional building, which is why many look rather alien, yet also simplistic), and Skyrim's are the "Northern Dwemer" (Which gains from the bleedout between the two other factions). I cannot, however, say what the Western Dwemer actually looks like, as 1) I've never played Redguard, and 2) We haven't had a true main series game which explores this.
That, in short, is how I personally perceive the Dwemer Factions. While its approximation to lore-correctness is unlikely, it makes a lot of sense geographically (the greater the distance between sides and the difference between habitats, the less similar they tend to be... I think there's a theory about that somewhere). But we'll have to wait until the next ES game to know for sure!
Edit: Oh, and yeah: I'm not planning on making this a replacement, as I'd have to replace all the Dwemer stuff as well to make it look good... though it'd look fantastic with Rubberman01's Skyrim Style Dwemer Ruins!
Edit: oops, I realize I wrote "Northern Dwemer" instead of "Eastern Dwemer". Corrected now.
Never played Redguard too. My first ES game was Morrowind. Sometimes I thought about trying Daggerfall or even Arena, but I believe I'm too young for that kind of games. As for Redguard or Battlespire... They are not so much outdated yet. So maybe.
So for you there is not two but three Dwemeri styles. An interesting approach. And very well explained too. I believe we all are free to make our own theories about them as Bethesda kind of inviting us to do so by creating such intriguing culture in their world.
Anyway that was very interesting to see your view. Thank you for sharing.
http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/44203/? ^^ That's the link to Rubberman's awesome looking modder's resource. It's a modder's resource, but the dungeon it has included is surprisingly full.
And I'm glad you like my theory... even if that is all that it is. Like I'd said, I can't "prove" anything, but perhaps I can approximate it
If you'd like to see the "finished" model of the spider (which is much more complete, though still lacking textures and animations), you can find images here: http://imgur.com/a/PMU6I
I'm thinking of actually including Rubberman's assets in the same mod that I release the Dwemer Spider in. I'm thinking perhaps a unique companion with a new dungeon to explore, and the companion (i.e., a slightly modified version of this spider) will assist you in completing, and potentially joining the player's party afterwards, quests outside of the dungeon. Although I think that I'll try and make the Spider companion (Who I'll affectionately refer to as "Scrappy) require the player to provide some sort of power core (say, for example, soul gems) ,and allow the player to upgrade it as well.Of course, I'll first need to finish the textures and animations before getting too far along, but that is what I would like to get to with this spider.
If Baladas Demnevanni have managed to make his Electric Sphere to obey his commands then there is no reason why there can't be a Dwemer companion. You only need to somehow explain why it should obey Nerevarine. But there is a million ways to do so. I'm sure you'll think of something interesting and "approximate" enough to the Lore. I'm look forvard to see it done.
Also if you ever need some scripting I may be able to help. Unfortunately there is not much use from me in 3d modelling, animating and all that stuff.
Well, I do have a plan that revolves around the Nerevarine fixing... and subsequently destroying... three iterations of the sphere before it willingly decides to obey...
And thanks for the offer of scripting, I will almost certainly require help :3
Fortunately, some of the basic templates for companions (which I can easily alter/edit) have already been made, so I won't worry about starting from scratch. Though I would like to add my fair share of uniqueness to the script itself.
Other than that there are only a few scripts that will need to be run, though I'll be sure to consult you if I run into any issues
That's a good idea about Nerevarine to construct his own dwemeri servant. An only suggestion if I may: there is the Dwemer Sphere follower in the original Morrowind already. The Exactly Electric Sphere of Baladas' which he'll present to you as a revard for doing some tasks (you only get the quest if you are in House Telvanni though). And there is even a mod that make the Sphere an usefull companion rather than "follow me until destroyed".

So maybe instead of a second Sphere you'll consider to make some other Dwemer construct as a follower? Why not this new Spider of yours? That also can explain why it's look so uncommon for Morrowind.
Sorry, that's what I'd meant to say from the start: The spider will be the follower, not a sphere. My bad there if I didn't communicate that properly (sorry o^o). Yes, the spider itself will be the companion, and it's name will be SCRAPPY :3 (Somewhat-Crappy-Robot-And-Personal-Pet-companYon... I know that's not how you spell companion, but I couldn't think of anything for it XD). I've already started the main quest for it, and I'm thinking it will be on an island north of Tamriel Rebuilt). There will be a mining settlement that is asking for help after accidentally uncovering a Dwemer ruin. It will be a unique adventure, dungeon, companion, and small landmass mod.
Something fun, hopefully And you get your own unique pet spider bot to boot!
I'll be honest... that was a bit of my inspiration
Though the settlers are a group of Bretons who founded the area... but not without much hardship. To be honest, they don't really need the help, they just don't want to have to delve into the ruins without much scouting and determining weak points... but a random adventurer...? Heh, that'll make things go by faster when someone doesn't care to live
But yeah, its name is Scrappy (Both affectionately and because it's made from scraps), and I'm hoping to provide an upgrade system for it where the player can visibly see a progression, though it'll take more time to do so. Essentially, the player will be able to find specific behavior drives (They'll be along the lines of a USB drive) that get consumed upon use with Scrappy. There might also be another, temporary, dwemer contraption companion, but Scrappy will be the main one.
While the island itself will not be anything majorly large, there will be enough stuff around it to warrant an expedition around the island. I'm thinking four or so major dungeons with 6-10 minor interiors and the town and Dwemer ruins themselves.
It's not going to be big, but it will not be too small
You've intrigued me so much already that now I want to ask for your permission to translate this future mod into Russian. There is an... Technical limitations in Morrowind's engine itself that make any mod on a language different from main game's unplayable. Or maybe this is a problem of Russian version only. Dunno. But one certainly can't play any foreign mod if it was not properly adapted first.
Yeah, I'd love to see it translated. I certainly wouldn't mind (I mean, all of my mods that I release with my stuff are free to use as long as credit is given where it needs to go). I'd actually be honored.
But before that, of course, I have to release the blasted mod.

But SCRAPPY is good too. Funny.
An island north from TR with mining settlement which (surprise) is in need of help... Sound like Bleakrock to me
