About this mod

With EIRO the numbers in your character sheet really matter. Every item in the game now requires some amount of skill, attributes or both to use/consume/wield/wear.

Immerse yourself in Morrowind like never before through dynamic and lore-grounded equipment and item usage requirements. EIRO introduces a realistic and balanced(IMO) system where your character's ability actually matter when it comes to wielding weapons, wearing armor, catching up on your reading with the 36 lessons of Vivec or sporting the latest fashion.

Features:
  • Attribute and Skill Checks: Every piece of equipment now comes with requirements that must be met before you can equip or use said item. "Broadsword", "saber", "longsword" and "katana" are subtypes of LongBladeOneHand. Each requires a different combination of Strength/Agility/LongBlade skill. The same level of detail applies to every other weapon and armor category in the game as well as consumables, wearables, tools, books, ammunitions and spells.
  • The requirements are lore-grounded, you can read about it in the design document. Here is an example:
The dagger and short sword are Western Imperial weapons. The tanto and wakizashi are styled after Akaviri blades. These weapons are light and fast, most effective against lightly armored opponents, but a skilled user can outlast more heavily armed and armored opponents. The dagger, tanto, and short sword are thrusting weapons, the wakizashi a chopping and slashing weapon. Rank them by effectiveness as dagger, tanto, short sword, and wakizashi, with dagger least effective

  • 100% MCM-Dynamic: If you find my formulas don't work well with your current mod set up, or you just don't like'em, use the mod menu to adjust modifiers with the same level of granularity that I used to build the mod, you don't even have to reload your game!
  • Enhanced Role-Playing: Tell your character’s development story through their items and equipment. Train and specialize in Security to use advanced lockpicks and probes, or find creative solutions to equip legendary pieces of armor beyond your current capabilities, I just hope you have the Willpower to realize those enchanted item permanent buffs!
  • Compatibility: EIRO is designed to seamlessly integrate with Morrowind's expansions, Tamriel Rebuilt and every other mod out there, even the excellent Clothing Requirements by Necrolesian is compatible with this mod, such is the nature of MWSE modding, on top of that I put a lot of effort into minimizing compatibility issues and maximum roleplaying potential.
  • I'm pretty sure it works with DRIP but I haven't tried that yet.
  • Detailed and color-coded UI: EIRO tooltips provide clear and informative feedback on skill/attribute requirements.
Are you strong enough to lift Aevar's mace!?
  • Clothing requires Personality, better clothing requires higher Personality. Why? Because Personality is your character's ability to understand why wearing pants is important. A character with high Personality also understands what kind of pants to wear to impress. The inverse is also true. (if you don't like this, set clothing modifier to -100 in the MCM, in game this will translate to all clothing requiring 0 Personality)

Why did I build EIRO? for the challenging and rewarding experience this type of gameplay-restriction provides.
Installation:
1) Unzip to a folder
2) Drag the MWSE folder you'll find inside the zip file Morrowind/Data Files Directory.
3) Open the game and go to the MCM right away, look for Equipment and Items Requirements Overhaul. If it's there you did it right.

NOTES:
1) When using the configuration options in MCM you don't need to restart the game, just close MCM and go back to your game, the settings save on close (MCM menu close) (not game close)
2) SAFE to install mid-playthrough.
3) Thought of better formulas? Found a bug? I want to hear it.

Other Mods I HIGHLY recommend:
--
Kirbonated Character Progression - A true gem, I want to bring Morrowind as close to Pen and Paper as I can, and this mod gets you 80% there, EIRO adds another 10% and a few other mods I have in my load order get me 5% closer still.
More Challenging Encumbrance - I go with the Hard Esp. Now my inventory also tells my character's story.
Worth it's weight - Gold has weight, like in Daggerfall. (It gives a lua error, sometimes a crash look in the comments of that mod for how to fix it)
--
Hardcore Morrowind - Fantastic mod I really like the many changes it makes to the game. I don't mix it with Kirbonated or TR because it's a very opinionated mod. I do supplement it with a few extras like MCE and WiW (the ones I mentioned above).
--
My other mod:
Better Character Classes Fixed, a simple ESP that fixes the BCC mod.

Thank you for checking out EIOS, I hope it brings you joy.

Special thanks to reddit user Krschkr for taking my "what if Morrowind had Elden Ring style equipment-requirements?" question seriously.
