Main Quest Revised

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind has a truly amazing storyline that immerses you in an alien world, rich with lore, captivating intrigue, and an ever-present desire to learn more. It maintains a steady pace throughout its main questline. To put it bluntly, Morrowind may very well have the best story of all The Elder Scrolls games. However, like much of Morrowind, the questline is akin to a diamond that needs just a bit of polish. This project aims to provide exactly that.

This mod introduces new roleplay options, improved follower scripts, Khajiit Speak, and several other minor adjustments. While these changes are straightforward, they make a significant impact.

Roleplay Options

If you've played some of my other mods, you'll know what to expect. These are skill checks that allow progression in dialogue without relying solely on the basic persuasion options to increase disposition. The screenshots illustrate this feature.

Fun fact: If you check the last screenshot, you'll notice it's actually from the vanilla game. All I did was add parentheses and modify the perspective to make it read from your viewpoint (i.e., "Let us fight a duel to the death" instead of "Offer to fight a duel to the death"). This aligns better with other dialogue options, integrates seamlessly with my other mods, and clearly displays the skills being checked.

One important note: I have not altered the Hortator quests—they would be far too messy to handle. I expect Tamriel Rebuilt will be addressing them. However, all other quests involving persuasion options now include roleplay alternatives where it feels appropriate.

Additionally, you'll level up your Speechcraft and Mercantile skills where applicable if you're using MWSE. If you're using OpenMW, the mod will function, though I believe the script for leveling skills doesn't work with it.

Better Follower Scripts

Followers will now warp to ensure they can't be outrun. They will also water walk if you activate water walking and levitate if you begin levitating. These simple changes make quests like the Ald Daedroth quest significantly less frustrating.

It’s worth noting that followers will not accompany you through teleportation magic. Special mods for OpenMW and MWSE are available to enable that functionality.

Khajiit Speak

In line with my mods that feature roleplay options, I've added unique dialogue for Khajiits. For example, rather than "I accept," you, as a Khajiit, will say "Khajiit accepts."

Minor Changes

Here are three examples of minor adjustments:

  • In the Vivec Informants quest, the thugs bullying the "filthy lizard" will also target you if you're an Argonian, calling you a filthy lizard.
  • In the first Urshilaku quest, there's an odd dialogue quirk where asking an Ashlander about "Nerevarine prophecies" leads to dialogue options that start with "Say". I’ve streamlined so instead the option just lets you say that. While my mods have received criticism for using dialogue options, this example highlights that vanilla itself never had a uniform approach to handling dialogue choices. I mean, compare this example to the "Yeah lemme in" dialogue when joining the Thieves Guild, and it's clear that vanilla never had a consistent way of handling dialogue choices either.
  • You can now tell Dagoth Ur that you fully intend to destroy the Heart of Akhulakhan. It’s puzzling why this wasn’t an option in vanilla—perhaps to keep your intent hidden so he wouldn’t defend it? Regardless, I thought it was a worthwhile addition.

Compatibility

As you can see, these are relatively minor changes that won't interfere with other mods you're using.

However, they might not align perfectly with the intentions of certain mods.

Compatibility generally depends on your load order—ensure this mod loads before or after another depending on which mod's changes to x, y, or z you prefer.
