Beni Zilal Troop Tree
The Beni Zilal emphasise shock and awe, and their troop tree reflects this with skirmisher cavalry, along with specialist shock infantry with a deadly secret...

Beni Zilal Apprentice
Type: Recruits
Tier: 2
Offence: Swords, two handed axes, throwing knives
Defence: Robes, adarga shield

Upon initiation into the Beni Zilal, new members attain the rank of 'apprentice'. Here, they train in the art of espionage, be it disguises, poisons and even swift movement in urban environments. The training they receive in blades also happens to make them serviceable, if lightly armoured infantry.

Beni Zilal Journeyman
Type: Light Infantry
Tier: 3
Offence: Swords, two handed swords, throwing knives
Defence: Layered robes, adarga shield

An apprentice will eventually attain the rank of journeymen. While this new station earns them better weapons and equipment, a journeyman will continue to operate in the same manner as apprentices. As such they still function as light infantry, hurling knives before closing in with swords.

Beni Zilal Soldier
Type: Mounted Skrimisher
Tier 4
Offence: Javelins, spears and swords
Defence: Ring armour and adaraga shields

Journeyman with an equestrian aptitude are given their horses and promoted to the rank of 'soldiers'. When a task demands the speed of a horse, the Beni Zilal will call on their 'soldiers' to complete it. In the battlefield, they act as skirmisher and lancer, softening foes before running them down.

Beni Zilal Royal Guard
Type: Mounted Skirmisher
Tier 5
Offence: Javelins, spears, axes and swords
Defence: Chainmail armour

The most visible arm of the Beni Zilal. As master horsemen, they are the often thought of as the Beni Zilal's elite. With their heroic and daring charges into enemy formations, they excel at drawing attention away from their unmounted comrades, who are free reposition themselves elsewhere...

Beni Zilal Agent
Type: Shock Infantry
Tier 4
Offence: Swords, two handed swords, throwing knives
Defence: Ring armour, adarga shield

Those who show a particular aptitude for the traditional methods of the Beni Zilal become agents, the secret warriors of the Beni Zilal. Operating mostly within cities, they were seldomly seen in battlefields until recently. Now, with Calradia in turmoil, they descend upon the battlefield with knives and great blades.

Beni Zilal Grand Master
Type: Shock Infantry
Tier 5
Offence: Swords, two handed swords, throwing knives, nafta bombs
Defence: Chainmail armour

It is said that sorcery is the Beni Zilal's great secret. Though one could dismiss tales of necromancy and conjuration as mere fantasy, the same cannot be said of the Beni Zilal's explosive spells. Beni Zilal Grand Masters happily propagate this 'secret', for it takes attention away from their deadly mastery of the blade.

Ghilman Troop Tree
Cavalry is the focus of the Ghilman troop tree, consisting of heavy lancers and horse archers... or camel archers, to be exact. All of them do in fact ride camels.

Ghilman Slave
Type: Light cavalry
Tier: 2
Offence: Spears and sabers
Defence: Tunics

Unlike Mamelukes, the Ghilman regard beauty and personal hygiene to be every bit as important as physical prowess in their prospects. Their jobs however are less than glamourous, tasked with menial labour or handling baggage mules. Still, they are trained and expected to eventually grow as warriors.

Ghilman Horseman
Type: Light cavalry
Tier: 3
Offence: Spears and sabers
Defence: Layered robes, adarga shield

It is foolish to dismiss the horsemen of the Ghilman based on the way their fabulous looks, for they are every bit as capable as their more rugged rivals. Daresay superior, at least in skill and looks. On the battlefield they ride as light cavalry, cutting down their less stylish foes with clean, well poised strikes.

Ghilman Lancer
Type: Shock Cavalry
Tier 4
Offence: Spears, maces and swords
Defence: Chainmail, helmets and round shields

Ghilman lancers have amassed enough wealth to afford quality chainmail, as well as more stylish silks to wear on top of them. They are the hammer of a Ghilman force, and with their lances they run down infantry as well as clash with enemy cavalry.

Ghilman Free Lancer
Type: Shock Cavalry
Tier 5
Offence: Lances, maces and swords
Defence: Scale armour, helmets and round shields

Contrary to their name, Ghilman Free Lancers still maintain the practice of 'selling' themselves as part slave, part owner. The name free is used in the sense that they are now truly 'free' to choose which master they serve, for their skill at the lance is sought after by many an Aserai lord.

Ghilman Skirmisher
Type: Horse Archer
Tier 4
Offence: Bows, swords and maces
Defence: Chainmail and round shields

As their name suggests, Ghilman Skirmishers act as the main screening element of a Ghilman force. With their bows and mobility, they weaken their foes to allow lancers to finish the job. Despite this important task, skirmishers often constitute the poorer and less well off of the Ghilman ranks.

Ghilman Free Skirmisher
Type: Horse Archer
Tier 5
Offence: Bows, swords and maces
Defence: Scale armour and round shields

As with their lancer counterparts, Free Skirmishers are free to choose their employers, for job prospects and money are no issue to them. But unlike lancers, these riders remain more lightly armoured as a point of pride. After all, how can one appreciate their immaculate hair when a helmet covers their heads?

Jawwal Troop Tree
The Jawwal troop tree consists of a single line of fast moving skirmishers who promote to mounted skirmishers. Uniquely, they can eventually turn into Nahasan troops, such as archers or camel cavalry.

Jawwal Wanderer
Type: Skirmishers
Tier: 2
Offence: Spears, javelins and swordsDefence: Wicker shields

It is easy to dismiss these naked warriors as desert savages, no better than the barbarians of Battania, or the brute from the Nordlands. A more open minded lord however will see value in their unmatched speed and javelins. Coupled with their wicker shields, one has to question the point of armour

Jawwal Bedouin
Type: Mounted Skirmishers
Tier: 3
Offence: Spears, javelins and swords
Defence: Layered robes and wicker shields

Jawwal Bedouin are more commonly seen than most Jawwal, for their ability to perform hit and run tactics upon their swift camels makes them highly suited to the Jawwal tradition of raiding. On occasion, such skills earn them employment as effective light cavalry.

Jawwal Veteran Bedouin
Type: Mounted Skirmishers
Tier 4
Offence: Spears, javelins and swords
Defence: Layered robes and wicker shields

In terms of equipment, little has changed for a veteran member of the Jawwal. Heavy armour serves no purpose in their tried and true traditions after all. What has changed however is their expertise, for now they are a cut above most as cavalry.
