Forget Wanderers - this is so much cooler!

Allows your troops to get promoted into the lords of your clan. After that the promoted can get experience, level ups, perks, get different equipment, etc.

How it works?
After a battle (if you didn't have a strong numerical advantage - don't go chasing measly 3 bandits unless you have a party of 3) the mod makes several checks to decide if one of your troops gets promotion. Maximum one promotion per battle.
The checks start with higher tier troops. So your recruits don't "steal" a promotion from the elite troops.
The number of checks depends on how many enemies your troops killed. So bigger battles have higher chance to produce a promoted troop.
The checks are divided between different stacks of troops and limited by the amount of troops in the stack.
A check has 1% chance to be successful, so you don't get overwhelmed with the endless stream of promoted troops.

Possible downsides.
  • Your clan might get too powerful. After all, every new member strengthens it. Especially if this member was promoted from a tier 6 troop.
  • After promotion, the troop asks more money. So it might be a hit on your finances.
  • I didn't test it thoroughly - I ran here as fast as I could to bring it to you. I did test it a bit, but thorough testing would require a lot of time, and I have other ideas I want to try for Bannerlord. Also, my vacation ended. (

How to install.
Download, put the folder inside the archive where the Bannerlord modules are.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Mount & Blade II Bannerlord\Modules\Promoted - in my case.

Configuration.
Find and edit the config file in the mod folder.
In my case, it's "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Mount & Blade II Bannerlord\Modules\Promoted\config.txt"
RatioThreshold=1.1 - the limit of how bigger can you party be to still have a chance for promotion. 1.1 supposed to allow you to have 10% more troops than your enemies.
BaseChance=0.01 - the chance that any given check will be successful. Keep in mind that several checks are made per battle.
DebugMessages=true - well, it's not just debug. If you think the mod sends too many messages, set it to false.
AlwaysPromote=false - set true if you doubt that mod works (or want to cheat).

DISCLAIMER
It's not like I know what I'm doing, I was just fooling around and that's what happened.
Back up your saves.
And come back to tell the others if you encounter problems, or it works well, and there is nothing to worry about.

Created and tested with game version v1.2.12.66233

Versions
v1.0.0 - initial release. Was initially considered v1.2.12.66233, but was a wrong choice on my part.
v1.0.0a - added the ability to set up if the new character is family or companion
v1.0.2 - fixed (it seems) the newly promoted characters not registering for the governor UI. Fix does not apply to the already promoted characters.
v1.0.3 - improved character handling when creating as companion (should not be shown in Family in Clan UI). Does not fix already existing characters.
v1.0.4 - reworked player's decision to promote to family/companion (removed from config; make two choices after battle - deny or accept promotion, then choose family or companion). Known Issue: even on a refused promotion, the troop is still taken away.
v1.0.5 - fixed the erroneous taking away the troop on refused promotion (introduced in 1.0.4).
v1.0.6 - improved the handling of promotion.
v1.0.7 - additional check that might prevent promotions "stealing" troops from allies.
v1.0.8 - functionally the same as v1.0.7 (trying to fix the crash when the game is unable to load the mod; if you don't have that problem, you don't need to update from v1.0.7).
v1.0.9 - fixed a crash when starting a custom battle.
v1.0.10 - added renaming companions via dialogue, improved naming, minor improvements.

Reported Issues:

If you have allies in battle, it can promote an allies unit to your party (might be fixed in v1.0.7, be kind to report if not).
A rare (at least, I hope it's rare) crash "cannot load \Modules\Promoted\bin\Win_Shipping_Client\Promoted.dll" on launching the game with the mod on. Happens in v1.0.7 and v1.0.8. I cannot replicate.

My mods
Better Than Human (both perks. attributes. focus) - for pure power fantasy
Promoted (from troops to companion) - for "natural" way to get companions
They Married (Your Companions) - allows your companions to get married
Renamer - a silly mod to rename characters via dialogue
Cry In The Night - a random encounter
ReCulture - a silly mod to change culture for characters via dialogue and settlements via menu
Send Companion To Another Clan - send your companions to be lords in other clans of your kingdom via dialogue
Call Of Iron - a quest
Necromancer - necromancy skill
