I don't quite get how the dad in game disassembled the whole car put it on shelfs and left it. Not very realistic. So I am here to change that instead of you building the car you actually fix the car. I am not going to disclose the exact part so you can have the fun of doing that yourself. I have 3 levels:
LEVEL 0: [NO EFFORT] Satsuma runs
LEVEL 1: [EASY] things that degrade when cars sit
LEVEL 2: [NORMAL] things that would break after use and time sitting
LEVEL 3: [HARD] things that would need to be replaced after 250k Miles
