I've been working recently on tallying up all the various "interesting" statistics this site records in to one grand total to get an overall view of the popularity of the sites within the gaming community. I thought it would nice to see just how big this community is and how popular it is to mod the games.

I was hoping to use sales figures from the various Bethesda games to come up with a ball-park figure of PC owners who have downloaded and modded their games through the Nexus. Unfortunately Bethesda aren't a public company and won't provide me with their sales figures (I can understand why) and the sales figures that have been announced through press releases will now be massively out-of-date.

I did recently use a BioWare press-release for Dragon Age that allowed me to come up with a ball-park figure. Including a 15% decrease on the results to account for piracy I worked out that 32% of the PC owners of Dragon Age had moddded their game using mods from Dragon Age Nexus. That figure obviously doesn't include users who download from other sites, such as the BioWare social site. The figure might be big to you, or it might be small to you, but the fact almost a third of BioWare's PC customers have modded the game suggests to me that modding is something PC game developers should be supporting more often.

The stats for TESNexus, Fallout 3 Nexus, New Vegas Nexus and Dragon Age Nexus can be found in the right-hand navigation under "Statistics".

    I must say that the stats are amazing, having been a member for 2 years, I've been blown away at the community of talent and support that I find on this site. Thanks to the modders and Thanks to the site admin. who keep it going.

    So true. Mods are what makes PC games superior [in my opinion] to console games. Other than that - Nexus pages are awesome!

    Spot on Dark0ne! Modding is something PC game developers should be supporting more often, I have always felt mods help developers sell more games so it's a sound idea. I purchased Morrowind GTY edition in '09 after discovering modding with Fallout 3, heck I even went back to playing TES4 because of mods.

    This is due to the great part that Nexus fills in the modding community, it's a wonderful site and I want to thank you Dark0ne, I will continue to be a premium member.

    When I joined Nexus in February 2009 there were lass than a million members now look at the stats, I think that alone is very telling not only about modding but it's growing popularity as well.

    I can definately say I use mods for the game. So much so that I have gained an almost ridiculous amount and can hardly keep track. All worth it though! I also agree that modding is something that needs more support.

    There are so many craft talented folks creating mods for character, weapons, armor, quests, etc. Thank the Maker for mods and there creators! :o)

    Yes, use the Members who have downloaded stat. It will tell you the number of individual members that have downloaded a file from that site; bearing in mind it only updates once a month so wait until tomorrow if you're checking New Vegas Nexus's community size.

    Question: Is there anyway the available stats could be used to figure out the approximate user size of the communities of these games?

    Personally, I think this site is a godsend, and it is no exaggeration on my part to say that the reason I bought DAO and Oblivion is due EXCLUSIVELY due to the modding community this site brought together and supports. I completely agree that modding support for games should be part of the design element since it greatly enhances the longevity of games and their continued sales, as well as revealing genuine talent to publishers from the community's contributers.

    Sledge454: tell that to Immortality, Karmalade, VanillaCena, Questorion, Phaenan, Lady Olivia, ejoslin and myself... We are working together so when our mods touch common files, no individual mod will break any other. It takes a desire to work together to prevent these things, which is something that I don't see being all that common in FO3, FO:NV or TES modding.

    EDIT: But of course the amount of members with uploaded Files are different on each site, which explains a lot.. Stupid me^^

    DAO isn't that great a platform for modding. If a mod changes one particular file, no other mod can change that file without conflicts. Whereas a FO3/FONV file can have as many mods as one likes as long as each mod changes a different stat. And for those that do conflict, FNVEdit deals with that fairly painlessly.
