Military Surplus Bolt Action Rifles And Carbines
The MBR-7 rifle and MBR-8 Carbine were developed during late 1950s during the Military's transition from bolt action rifles and M1 Grand's to new, select-fire R91 assault rifles, chambered for then-new 5.56mm NATO ammunition. The MBR letters stand for "Model Bolt-Action Rifle", and both MBR-7 rifles and MBR-8 Carbines are conversions of the earlier Mauser type bolt action rifles which were in abundance at the time because of adoption of new, more effective guns. Conversions of both guns included new barrels chambered for .308 Cal NATO ammunition, new magazines and spacers inserted in the guns to accommodate shorter magazines and new iron sights with shortened forends and barrels for the MBR-8 Carbines. The MBR-7 rifles were converted from Springfield M1903A3 rifles. The MBR-8 Carbines were converted from Springfield M1903 rifles. The MBR-7 rifles and MBR-8 Carbines were issued to Civil Guard units and also used for military training, as their sighting arrangements and ballistics were intentionally made similar to that of the R91 assault rifles. These rifles were used until about the 1970's, when armed forces began transition to the assault carbines/and service rifles, and most MBR-7 rifles and MBR-8 Carbines were then sold as surplus.
