About this image

Despite having almost no interest in playing Counter-Strike, I watch a lot of 3kliksphillip videos, particularly the ones where he talks about Custom Maps and Mapping; which has some transferable insight in New Vegas modding.

One subject he brings up a lot are a Source engine feature called "Clip Brushes", which are effectively invisible walls. CS mappers use these to make traversal over certain terrain, such as stairs, smoother; or to make grenades bounce more predictably off certain surfaces.

I imagine it's much more fiddly, but I've found Collision planes can be used for much the same in New Vegas. Very useful for reducing janky movement on kitbashed terrain.

Like Source's clipbrushes, Collision planes can selectively filter what they do and  do not have collision with, so they're highly versatile for this purpose.
