      Movies, mainstream media, politics and ignorance.
      If you can get mainstream media, politicians and movies to say the same thing, even if it is false, ignorant people may believe it. In other words, spread a lie enough times and people will think it is true.
      For instance many do not know that (real) assault rifles are banned for civilian manufacture. Not many people know this fact.

   Considering the context of the joke (an my utter hatred of Dianne Feinstein) I found the 'tasteless joke' to be fitting, though the comedic factor was lacking.
   
   As a result I can see this model being used in game as a mine. Lots of potential, lots of potential.

   You could almost take the statement as a poke at people who don't know what actually defines an "assault weapon" or "assault rifle".
