About this image

My attempt at making a face texture, is there a way to make an NPC use the custom texture without making a custom race?

In FNVEdit I've tried to point the alternative texture to the face textureset, changing the model filename to Charactersheadheadhuman.NIF , making it an esm and double checking for testing I've got the load order 01. Anyone know if it's even possible this way?

Way to go, can't wait to hear how!

I'll write up the tutorial sometime, just keep checking the Fallout: New Vegas Mod Talk section in the Forums or TESNEXUS Wiki under tutorials. I am trying to finish a mod as well mind    Don't worry I will do it!

No way. I have actually managed to make an NPC use a face just for them and don't need a custom race! I'll do a tutorial on it, it'll be pretty handy. So stoked right now.

but the custom race's not a problem just duplicate one and chek unplayable

It's not a problem, quite happy with it in game. Was just wondering because if I could do it without creating a race then I would do it to a bunch of NPC's in a mod.

Your best bet really is to make a custom race and change those NPC's to it. Otherwise you're giving that texture to 100% of the population.

Changing the model for the entry is... it feels wrong as a concept. I don't know how else to explain it other than that's not how you're supposed to do it. As far as I've learned you just want to change the head texture part of the race entry instead of "hardwire" your texture to the model.

This is stuff I haven't quite gotten to playing with myself, so I could be wrong. I've only gone so far as to assign custom textures to race entries.

Thanks for input Brigand231 and zzjay, just trying to delve into bits of modding I haven't before. Custom race it is!

Yeah, unfortunately need to create the unique race is the only way that I know of. having to do that for each NPC in game or just the one's standing out is painstaking. Really wish Bethesda would stop goofing around and taking NPCs and Presets more serious. None of this nonsense everyone wears the same mesh and skin.
