About this image
Just another quick progress update. I noticed how slender the rifle was looking in game, and after loading up some blueprints and reference images I realised whoever had made the origional mesh (great job by the way) - had underestimated the width of the FAL receiver and magazine. A few hours later and I had it more inline with the real world version. Its barley noticeable in-game, iron sights gives the best comparsion - but I personally think it looks far more proportional now.
As for when this will be released. Its still largely up in the air. If you people want it tomorrow or today, let me know and I'll upload what I have so far - if not, I have a neverending list of things I want to implement. I might even brave the animation editor again after lunch.
In other news I found this today.
So now I'm wondering whether I should make a companion mod for Classic Fallout weapons, or this Lt Albrecht's mod. Both authors havn't been active on the Nexus for a while now, so there's probably equal likelyhoods of gaining their permission. But as Albreschets FAL pack has more variants of the rifle, it might be more effective to update that one, rather than Classic fallout weapons which has only two variants.

If you seriously want to make alternate assets for it, I can toss them up as an optional download. If I recall correctly, there's been requests for a more realistic looking mount for the scope as well, but I have no idea how to do it.
I could tentatively grant permission for a companion mod as well, depending on what all you've got in mind to do with it, though that really only pertains to the plugin; looking at the credits makes it seem like additional perms would be required to manipulate the assets. I could try to track down that kind of permission if you'd like.
Last I talked to LtAlbrecht, he's not so much gone as just busy with higher education and he does pop in from time to time, so would likely respond to PM.
As for using the assets from Albrecht's pack - the models I'm using (from Classic Fallout weapons) - look pretty much identical, just without all the paratrooper and surppressed versions. I'm fairly sure that only one FAL model (millenia's I think) - ever really got ported to fallout - hence why several mods all use it.
As for making a companion mod to LTAlbrech's - look at this way. All I'm intending to do here is overhaul textures - models - sounds and maybe animations (you know how much I suck at those). It'll be more of an addon than a full blown mod.
I was planning to PM Albrech anyway at some point - just focusing on actually making progress at the moment.
Oblivion rifle and this are being worked on side by side. This is mostly a project I'm undertaking because I found a FAL in my playthrough and couldn't bring myself to play with it in such an...incomplete state. There should be an Oblivion update before the end of the month - still a lot of things I want to do with that.
I simply haven't been able to do as much modelling and modding recently because real life has been demanding most of my time. Things are settling down a bit now though.
