About this mod

Deckard\'s Blaster from Ridley Scott\'s Blade Runner.

Permissions and credits
Background on the Film:

Los Angeles, 2019:

Genetically engineered organic robots called Replicants—visually indistinguishable from adult humans—are manufactured by the powerful Tyrell Corporation as well as other mega manufacturers around the world. Their use on Earth is banned, and Replicants are exclusively used for dangerous, menial or leisure work on Earth's off-world colonies. Replicants who defy the ban and return to Earth are hunted down and "retired" by police special operatives known as "Blade Runners".

Rick Deckard, a burnt out expert Blade Runner, reluctantly agrees to take on one more assignment, to hunt down a brutal and cunning group of recently escaped Replicants hiding in Los Angeles .

Description of the File:

As many Fallout Fans are already aware, "That Gun" (Fallout: New Vegas) and the ".223 Pistol" (Fallout and Fallout 2) are based off of Deckard's Blaster from the film, Blade Runner. This file modifies "That Gun" to make it behave more like the weapon from the film.

The primary improvements this mod offers are taken directly from the film's lore:

1. Sound

The gunshot alone is worth downloading this file! I spent quite a bit of time recording and re-recording various gunshots from the film in order to get the BEST quality gunshot available. The one used in this mod is the third shot during the scene in which Deckard chases Zhora through the street. It was a very difficult process to locate, record, edit, and convert this sound file in order for it to be used with this mod properly. However, with the time and effort I put into this attribute, I am EXTREMELY satisfied with my results.

2. Damage

I wanted to give Deckard's Blaster a noticeable amount of power to match that of the film. As it is a futuristic weapon, I felt that the default 18 damage did not do the film justice. With that being said, I did not want to go overboard either. In order to balance the weapon effectively, I settled on a respectable 40 damage. This makes the weapon slightly more powerful than a .44 magnum, but also less powerful than the unique .44 magnum.

3. Jamming

I cannot remember exactly where I read this fact (some site dedicated to the film), though it was stated that Deckard's Blaster has an electronic chip built in to the weapon to prevent jamming. As such, I have carried this attribute over to the mod which will prevent the weapon from jamming while reloading.

Future Improvements:

Second Trigger!!!

As any (True) fan of the movie Blade Runner knows, Deckard's Blaster is equipped with two triggers. When I started making this mod, it was completely compatible with mods that incorporated a second trigger, making it a simple task of applying a weapon mod in game to receive an authentic look. As the mod is now complete, I have come to find that this is not the case. Hopefully, I will be able to resolve this issue at a later date, in order to regain the gun's most notable feature.

Installation:

1. Place the Data file in the Fallout: New Vegas Directory
c:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout New Vegas

2. Go to "Data Files" in the Fallout New Vegas Launcher and check the box for the file

Thank you for downloading, and enjoy the mod!

Version002:

Just Released an alternate version which should correct some issues which caused the "Weapon Mods" to appear missing.

Version002 Installation:

1. Place the Data file in the Fallout: New Vegas Directory
c:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout New Vegas

2. If/When asked to overwrite the file(s) choose yes

3. Go to "Data Files" in the Fallout New Vegas Launcher and
uncheck the previous version (BLADERUNNER)

4. Check the box for the new file (BLADE RUNNER 002)

Enjoy the Mod!

Conflict Resolved (Version001):

With a lot of help from Ghostifish, I was able to locate and resolve the problem with the original Mod. I released the corrected file as an Update (001ALPHA) which can be used to overwrite the original BLADERUNNER.esp file.

With the conflicts addressed, this file is now compatible with MUW (Moddable Unique Weapons), with which you will be able to add a second trigger to "That Gun" in order to recreate a fully Authentic Blade Runner Experience.

MUW Link:
http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35009

In order to install 001ALPHA, simply copy the .esp file and paste it in your Data folder (it will overwrite the original). [Consult the MUW link for details on its installation]

Version Differences:

1. Blade Runner Deckards Blaster
[aka: Version001]

Incorrectly references MUW Weapons Mods (Not MUW Compatible). May present some issues concerning these mods.

-----1A. [UPDATE] Blade Runner Deckards Blaster -- MUW Compatible
-----[aka: Version001ALPHA]

-----Corrects Version001's references to MUW (Fully MUW Compatible). Allows for the addition of a Second Trigger to recreate the Weapon from the film.

2. Blade Runner Deckards Blaster 002
[aka: Version002]

Meant to be used as an alternative to Version001 (and its update Version001ALPHA). Not related to MUW in any way. Contains additional Action-Linked Audio from the film (Pick-Up, Put-Down, and Draw) and incorporates a 3D version of the gunshot.

Which One's Right for Me?:

If you want the addition of a Second Trigger (like the gun in the film), then download Version001ALPHA and MUW.

If you would rather not mess with a secondary mod, do not desire a second trigger, or want the additional Audio features, then download Version002.

[Hopefully this helps you decide]

Enjoy the mod!
