News:

Too Many Quest Markers - Lonesome Road is available as an optional file. Don't miss out on the full challenge of exploring the new DLC without any quest markers!?!? Get it now!

Too Many Quest Markers - Main has been cleaned up a bit.

******************

Optional files for Lonesome Road DLC, Old World Blues DLC, Honest Hearts DLC and Dead Money DLC are now available.

Before I played Honest Hearts DLC I opened it in G.E.C.K. and deleted the quest markers from each quest. You have to ask yourself, "Did I actually scavenge all five lunch boxes in the General Store or did I just follow the arrows to them?"

And it was like the game wanted me to do this. Follows-Chalk tells me if I'm going the wrong way, location markers appeared on their own, quest objectives gave me helpful hints in finding what I was looking for! Perfectly meshed.

History:

This mod is the natural companion to my Wasteland Explorer mod which simply provided a quest without without markers, with one simple objective, "Explore the Wasteland."

Too Many Quest Mods:

But you can't ignore the quests all the time and in Fallout New Vegas especially I realized I was missing out on my favorite part of the game, exploration, because almost every quest tells you directly where to go next, despite having never met the person before, despite having never been there before, somehow your PipBoy gives you a marker pointing to the next objective and the next and the next, until you're done, and after that what have you done?

What It Does:

To rectify the situation, to bring back the mystery and wonder to the Wasteland, I've systematically gone through and deleted all the markers for quest objectives which your character wouldn't otherwise know. This has the potential to make the game much more interesting and difficult.

Some Examples:

For example if Julie Farkas asks you to find Jacob Hoff, you'll have to find Jacob Hoff, there won't be a quest marker on your map or compass pointing to him. But, to avoid tedium, once you do find someone the quest marker appears if your next objective is simply to return to someone you've met or somewhere you've been.

For more precise quests instead of quest markers people will show you new undiscovered locations on your map, which you can then set your compass to point to, journey to, and discover. I've even added new locations to the map where quests became difficult without them.

And fair warning, if you're deep in some vault looking for the Differential Pressure Controller for McNamarra there'll be no quest marker pointing to it, you'll have to find it by searching. You could very well be in the wrong vault, as I've found myself, my only clue the new information I've added to the some of the quest objectives, and I think this is part of the fun, the way the game should've been from the beginning.

What's Missing:

Other quests, requiring multiple new map markers, I still have work to do, although I've been sitting on this mod for months, tweaking it with every play-through, and I think it's ready for you to try. I think you might like it as much as I have.

What's Next:

Updates for all four Fallout: New Vegas DLC are now available.
