By this point, I've done just about everything I wanted to with conventional weaponry, so now it's time to get weird! We've all played this game as kids - be it cops and robbers, cowboys and Indians, army, or any number of other variations - where we run around pointing our fingers at each other and shouting, "Bang!" I decided to bring this experience into New Vegas, but with a slight sci-fi twist since psychic powers have been canonically established in the franchise.
I started with the base game hand mesh and removed all the bone assignments so that I was left with a static object that wouldn't flex with the player's movements. I then bent the ring and pinky fingers, straightened the middle and index fingers and tilted the thumb up, shaping the hand into the form of a double-barreled finger gun (which is obviously superior to the single-barrel version. Fight me.). I did this for both the male and female hand meshes, and the skin tone will also change properly depending on your character's race.
Gameplay-wise, this weapon is considered an energy weapon. It deals 10 points of base damage, plus a damage bonus equal to your character's level - therefore, a Level 2 character will deal 12 total points of damage whereas a Level 50 character will deal 60 total points of damage. This should hopefully keep the weapon viable as you progress through the game. Targets will also get pushed back by the impact. This weapon consumes no ammo, has no visible projectile or impact effect, doesn't degrade, can't be confiscated, and will totally gib a target with a critical hit. It will also make a different firing noise depending on whether you're playing as a male or a female.
As of v1.1, I made the weapon a little less cheat-y. It now uses the same regeneration mechanic as the Recharger weapons to recharge your "Focus" so you can't keep shooting indefinitely. Focus recharges at a rate of one unit every two seconds.
Hmm, would it have been funnier if the featured image was just an empty grey background?
LOCATION
The weapon can only be acquired by selecting the new "Finger Blaster" perk I added, which is unlocked at Level 2 if you have the Wild Wasteland trait. Of course, if you're feeling lazy, you can always use the following console command (Substitute ## with the Mod Index of the plugin in your load order):
player.AddItem ##000ADE 1 ;Gives 1 Psychic Pistol
Detailed Instructions:
Player.AddItem <FormID> 1
INSTALLATION
Extract all the files in the archive to your New Vegas data folder (which is the same folder where FalloutNV.esm is located) and then enable the ESP either in your mod manager of choice, or under "Data Files" in the launcher that runs when you start up New Vegas.
CREDITS
The female Courier's firing noises were ported from Saints Row the Third, which according to this link, is allowed by the developer Volition.
