Q & A:
Q: Why?
A: Useful for when you want to roleplay situations like your character getting infected with a disease, wearing a disguise, or joining a faction.
Q: How does this work?
A: The key to it is the CopyFaceGenFrom function from JIP LN NVSE Plugin. I store the players FaceGen in a NPC that's sitting in a test cell, change that NPC's race, then copy the FaceGen data (with new race) from the test NPC back to the player. As long as the races being copied between all are based on the same race template (Caucasian, Hispanic, Asian, African American) then the player will look the same except for assuming the new head, body, and hand textures (and head mesh in the case of Ghouls). If any modders want to do this in their mod, make an NPC named FakeNPC and place a persistent reference of them in a cell and name it FakeNPCRef, then run the following commands:
FakeNPCRef.CopyFaceGenFrom (Player.gbo)
SetRace FakeNPC <Target Race>
PlayerRef.CopyFaceGenFrom FakeNPC
Possible other applications of this would include making NPC dopplegangers of the player, either fighting a horde of your clones or a long lost twin companion, or changing the player's head, body, or hand textures, or even changing their head, body, or hand meshes! Thanks to the xNVSE discord for helping figure this out!
Notes:
- Character customization is entirely preserved when switching between variants.*
- Doesn't work with custom races
- TYPE4 is a requirement because it provides playable female textures for the Honest Hearts and Lobotomite races.
- If you didn't download the TTW patch for TYPE4 before it was removed by the author and want nude textures for the Pitt and Point Lookout races your best option is probably the Type-3 textures from FO3 Nexus: 1 2
- Not interested in making a FNV-only version. TTW is great and if you hate FO3 you can just skip directly to New Vegas without even playing through the vault opening.
* Hair is only persisted when switching between non-Ghoul variants. When switching to Ghoul your hair style will be replaced with the default ghoul hair and when you switch away from Ghoul it'll become the default for the variant you switched to. This is because normal hairstyles clip horribly with the ghoul head mesh.
