Barton Thorn - Broken Chem User
The Alternate Reality series intends to add some desperately needed variety / spice / random elements to your playthroughs - implementing alternate realities as is similar in Bethesda and Obsidian's RPG experiences. Certain things are left open-ended and the actual reality of your game may not always play out (or be perceived) the same way.
The first time I played New Vegas I was impressed by Barton Thorn's depth. He's not just a simple raider - he genuinely tries to deceive you. Unfortunately, after your first time playing you always know that Barton is going to do this. With this mod installed, you'll never know if Barton is going to betray you or if he really needed you to save his girl from geckos. I have restored a cut note that may explain a little more of the situation.
Alternate Reality #1: (Vanilla Interaction) Barton DOES betray you
Barton thought of the idea to deceive you by lying about his (ex)girlfriend needing help. Barton's girlfriend's whereabouts are unknown(?) - she may be alive or dead.
Alternate Reality #2: Barton DOES NOT betray you
Barton was actually telling the truth and his girlfriend wound up surrounded by geckos. They may have gotten into an argument/fight or gotten too high on chems... he was too drugged out/scared/unaware to help. Barton will be too broken to even look at his girlfriend's mutilated corpse. He will walk back to his camp spot and be forever moody.

☛ Barton will give you a Sunset Sarsaparilla Star Bottle Cap. This cap is unobtainable any other way than helping Barton and then choosing the correct dialogue. Barton's new custom dialogue is voiced, and I think it sounds pretty good considering the tools I used and time I spent on it.
☛ Barton will also continue his drug use. Once a day, you can do Jet with Barton for free because you're his buddy now. This Jet is unobtainable any other way than doing it with Barton; you cannot loot any Jet from Barton. You can ask him once a day to hit chems and he will give you a free hit of Jet. I think this is useful for an early-game character and really fits the environment. This gives you an incentive to keep Barton alive.
☛ Barton will also continue his drug use. Once a day, you can do Jet with Barton for free because you're his buddy now. This Jet is unobtainable any other way than doing it with Barton; you cannot loot any Jet from Barton. You can ask him once a day to hit chems and he will give you a free hit of Jet. ☛ Encountering Barton so early in the game and being deceived in this way was seemingly supposed to teach players that there's not many people you can trust in the wasteland. But there aren't too many NPCs that actually deceive the player in New Vegas. I can think of Barton, Benny, and the Mercs who make you fight the Giant Radscorpion. This makes us wonder about the possibilities / cut content that could have been.
☛ This mod already restores Barton's cut note.
☛ In the vanilla game Barton's trailer contains two beds. It is safe to say this is Barton's campsite and trailer, as he also attempts to sleep in these beds.
(Barton gets stuck in the trailer by default, and is unable to physically reach the beds.)
☛ These two beds in Barton's trailer are uniquely labelled in the editor. This means that these beds were more significant than your average beds.
☛ Could Barton's girlfriend actually be a cut character? Was there someone meant to share these beds with Barton?

I'm also not necessarily familiar with proper audio recording/production. If I add Barton's girlfriend, I'd really like to have voice actors for this new NPC couple.
