Converts the Mysterious Stranger perk to behave more like it did in Fallout 1/2, wherein the Stranger would randomly appear at the start of combat and help until it ended or they were killed.

This mod replaces/revamps the Mysterious Stranger perk to behave like how it does in Fallout 1 and 2. The Luck requirement has been reduced to 5, and instead of appearing in V.A.T.S., by default the Stranger now has a chance to appear any time combat starts. Their sex now matches that of the player character, and in addition they no longer wear a trench coat nor are they armed with an instakill magnum, instead their gear is now level dependent and scales with you, similar to Fallout 2. Past level 10, they gain higher tier items at levels 15, 20, 30, and 40, starting out with just Reinforced Leather Armor and basic pistols/rifles, then ending with T-51b Power Armor and heavy weapons.
Upon succeeding a chance to spawn, they will appear behind you with a musical cue, increment the They Move in Mysterious Ways challenge, and will follow the player until either they are disarmed, killed, or combat ends and at least 30 seconds have passed, after which they will vanish. They will attempt to do so outside of line of sight, so you will likely never see them actually phase in or out. While active, the Stranger cannot be talked to or traded with, any items picked up by them after their summoning will be passed on to the player as they leave. After disappearing, or failing to spawn, an entire minute must pass outside of combat before they can attempt to appear once more.
In short, by default they have a 10% chance to appear once per minute at the start of combat.
Starting with version 2.0, several aspects of how the mod functions can be tweaks via the included .ini.
The following settings can be changed:
- The Stranger's spawn chance.
- How much time must pass outside of combat before the Stranger attempts to spawn again.
- How long the Stranger will follow you once combat ends.
- If the Stranger should spawn with his base game appearance, armor and weapon.
- If the Stranger should be male, female, or random.
- How the Stranger's physical appearance is determined.
